Since E* added some new channels lately my 721 has started acting up again. It's been a few weeks now since I have had something to bitch about with my 721 but just in the last few days it has turned back into a POS. I have done all of the usual things like rebooting (soft & hard) and praying but to no avail. It has started having problems with the skip-back function and now it won't see the timer conflicts when they happen, the system just won't record any of the timer events when it has a conflict. I have come to the conclusion that when E* adds new channels it has an effect on the timing of the 721 and that those clowns at E* have not figured that out yet.

POS?

My 510 sometimes refuses to work at all (which is worse than your problem it seems), and i've found that the best/fastest fix is to remove the coax from it for a while. Shut it off, unplug it, remove the coax. Let it sit for a while. 15 minutes or so should be fine. Plug it back in but NOT the coax. Let it sit for a while again. Plug in the coax and let it sit for a while again. Turn it on and see if it's not back to normal.

That soft reset doesn't do a damn thing, and neither does the hard reset. Seems to actually fix itself when it's not fighting with an incoming data stream for attention...

My 508 in the past had an issue with audio dropping out on events recorded between 11pm and 2am on specific channels such as scifi, cartoon network, and usa. This problem disapeared after about 3 weeks. Another issue that was there at the same time involved the reciever locking up on everything except for the a/v, it wouldnt change channels or shut off and had to have a power cord reset. Since may all of these issues have not come back.

I once left the 721, but I went back. No DVR fee, 90 hours, dual tuner, UHF remote....
It does do od things, both of the ones I have owned have done this, such as losing signal from one side, then having to reboot to get the signal back. When I bought my new one, it would not recognize a DP34. I had to connect the DP dual directly to the receiver; it still only read the odd transponders, until it downloaded current software for 45 minutes.

Like you said....You can't live without it once you become accustomed to it.
