In the past week or so two times my 622 has freaked.

I will be watching a program back on the DVR, picture goes blank and a HIGH PITCH wining noise begins. Can't shut off unit remotely or on face, I have to reboot.

Any idea what this might be? Once I reboot I can continue watching the recorded program.

Yea it's referred to by different pseudo-names but the "screeching reboots" is a know problem with Dish tech and they will probably replace your receiver if you call them (or if you complain about it enough here, they may contact you:)).

A guy at tech finally admitted to me that there are in fact slight differences between 622s depending on where & when they were manufactured (something a few of us had been saying right along) and this is why code modifications don't always affect all 622s the same.

My guess (and lots of luck getting Dish to publicly admit this) is when a download adversely affects a significant number of units, they try to quickly patch it up with subsequent downloads but it sometimes reaches a point where it's more cost effective to replace units than create code that will patch them all.

Why would this start well over a year of using the receiver. What happens to my 20 hours of programming if I replace the receiver?
