It did formatting, but after reboot 622 shows 1 GB free space available.

There are created three formatted EX3 partitions: 1 GB, 500 GB (DishArc), 500 GB (DishArc) and one extended 862 GB, but empty - no file system.

A post in the 'other' forum has similar information on a 1.5TB. It appears the 622 & 722 are limited to 1TB at this point in time.

I am running a Seagate 1.5TB with no problem. It probably has to do with partition sizes (assuming not actually a drive with multiple LUN)

Well, your report doesn't provide any technical info.
Would you run any partitioning software what support EXT2/EXT3 and post the scheme here ?
I'm suggest those 1.5 TB have same two 500 GB DishArc partitions.

[Actually, I could buy 1.5 GB to try reveal the facts too.]

Could you use a utility and re-size the (2) "storage" partitions and see how the DVR reacts to them ?

Dish SW is very picky about sizing or touching partitions or dir/files - usually if you change something it will rebuild whole disk from scratch.

I have a vip 722 that worked fine with an external 750 Gb for about a year. This weekend it stopped letting me manage--so I could not pull any of my recordings off. When I try, it freezes and then reboots the vip722. I have an identical 722 upstairs and downstairs and it does the same thing on both receivers. How can I determine whether the problem is software that the 722 put into the external versus a defect in the external--which is a Western Digital. Bob

Ps. Virgin here. I can not figure out how to post the forgoing as a question--I just get solicited for a $20 beer--worse than the dancing girls on Broadway. Bob
