522 - Unexpected hard drive test

have had dvr about 9 months - only recently started seeing these "hard drive test" messages with their 5+ minute "outages". After many minute wait for a tech on support line got a "DUH" and "run around" answer. Geeeez! Has anyone had any rational answer on why these occur?

Many/most 522s have been converted to 512s do you really have a 522? You realize that receiver is about 8 years old so there is a good chance you have a bad hard drive.
