522 Dishin'it up promo details

The first CSR I spoke to said the promotion did not exist. Then she said I did not qualify. I asked to speak to a manager, I got another CSR.

The second CSR got the fees right but told me if I was replacing a reciever there would be no install fee.

The 3rd CSR (when I called to place the order) told me the install fee was not optional.
How can that be? Dish Network was ranked #1 with JD Power for Customer Service.

Who can get this offer?

I've been a Dish subscriber for just over a year, and my commitment is over (I verified yesterday). I own a 301 and a 501. I was told yesterday the 522 promo would start today (2/1), so I called today, and I'm not eligible. At least it doesn't show the promotion on my account. I even set up an online account and logged in, and sure enough, no dice. Of course none of the CSR's, including supervisors, can tell me WHY I'm not eligible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I just called again and selected technical support (instead of programming like I did last time) and got a knowledgable guy that took care of my order. They are installing my 522 monday morning.

Ive had dish for almost 4 years, no commit left and I lease. Just spent 45 minutes on the phone with them. Spoke to 1 CSR, a supervisor and an account specialist. I checked the website and under my account the 522 is listed where it was not yesterday for upgrades. It says for $49, I can get the 522. Yet, I was told it was gonna cost $148. Huh? I explained to all three that it clearly stated $49 on the web and they had no clue as to what I was talking about. The account specialist new it was coming but didn't know it started today. gah!

So, nothing got accomplished at all. They have no option for self install, just prof. installation. Guess it is time to see the power of the ceo email.

I tried the CEO email. I got a call about an hour later. Basically the lady told me that the $150 stands, and she wasn't sure how the system calculated the figure. Apparently they just plug in your account and the system tells them the price. She further said that if we were to get a 522 on eBay for example, the cost would be $119 to do the installation (the extra wiring, etc). I'm tossing up whether to just cancel the whole thing now.

I called the local dealer, they put my info into the system and said I don't qualify even thought I'm a 1+ yr and have taken no other deals in the past. They said they tried doing that with a person who was a 6 year sub and wouldn't let her do it. she said the system was messed up and they were working on fixing it. I called dish and they said that they could offer me a 510 for 320 dollars and to check back later when all the customers requalify next week. they had to send something to the system for all subs that qualify in order to get it. nice. I just want a freaking 522. It's not like gm says you can't have a red corvette because you don't qualify...I'm a customer and I should be able to get what I want. at this point I would pay full price for a 522.

I feel your pain Brian. I sent an email off to ceo. Hopefully they will contact me. I called a local D* dealer and I can get a dual tuner tivo setup for the same programming cost at E* and actually get $50 more back than installation costs.

:D I ordered my 522 today with CSR. Cost is $49 + $50 installation. Install is scheduled for FRI 02-04-05. Both my old units can be returned for a $25 credit each, if I so choose.

I asked for a self install, but was told pro install in mandatory.

Will the dual tuner TV run 2 TV's like the 522?

trade,
I assume you mean the D* tivo dvr?
No it won't which is a downer for me. It will not feed tv2 as a separate tv like the 522 does. But you can connect it to a separate tv from the main one. You actually don't need to use a diplexer if you do it right.

Also, you'd need a rf remote with some kind of RF/IR blaster to control the D*dvr from a second room. I already have a remote that can do that though. :)

Better hurry if you're going to order. The website says the offer expires 2/28/05. Hurry, hurry!!! You know how firm Dish is with their expiration dates!

What's the real deal then!

The first message in this thread by chastulsa stated the "Dish'n it Up" promo was $50. I assume this is the install fee. Then there should be a monthly lease fee.

So, I call and CSR tells me $148.00 install fee, then $5.00 a month for lease and a $4.9? DVR fee!!!

So what is the real deal? BTW, if I cancel my DISH TV, how long before I can sign up as a new customer? Cause as a new customer, I would not have to pay the installation fee to get the DVR 522.

Thanks for any info you can did up!

Bret,

You can't cancel and then resign. You would have to use another phone number than what they have currently for you. Maybe you can fool them. As for the DVR fee, that is standard with both sat providers. The lease fee is a typical fee.

My real complaint is the fact that on their website under my account it says get the 522 for $49. Where does the other $100 come from?? I wish they were not forcing the installation. I just want it shiipped to me.

Still haven't gotten a response from the ceo email.

Others have reported upgrading for only the $49. So perhaps you need to talk to another CRS.

Also could you put the images for the upgrades in this thread. As they are not visable to me yet and would like to see them...

The details I was told by the CSR

I was told the upgrade would cost me $99 for the install - I asked if there were extra charges - he said just the $4.98 DVR fee and the $5 lease fee -
I then asked more about what the $99 install was. He explained that it is really a $49 upgrade fee and a $50 install fee.

I have been a LONG time customer of DISH - six years - and cannot believe they do not make any effort to maintain their loyal customers. I had previously emailed the ceo office - and stated I was considering switching to DirecTV - they said they thought there was going to be a promotion on the 522 in Feb for existing subscribers.

Now that I've got the details of the 522 upgrade promotion - I'm really seriously thinking I should just switch to DirecTV. I can get 2 DirectTivo systems - $49 each after rebate - own the equipment - no lease fee - and no install fee - and have better DVR equipment ...

Is anyone else thinking about going this route - the only thing I think I'd be losing are the Sirius music channels - which I don't listen to anyway....
Are there any other things I should be factoring in to make my decision ???

Here is what I see. I haven't called yet. too busy to play games on the phone tonight. I highlighted the section about the 522.:

Mike,

That is the exact thing I see and I also told 3 csr's at dish today that. They didn't see that. What's funny is that I have seen people in this thread get the upgrade for 49, 99 and 148. How can it be that different? That's why i got so frustrated with them today.

I did get a phone call from the executive office from my ceo email. By the time I got to return the call they were gone for the day. So I will speak with them tomorrow.

Daffy,
You have the same idea I do about switching. Cheaper getting a new system than upgrading.

Technical Specs

Does anyone know if the 522's hard drive spin down completely? Like the 508 does. I like this deal and would maybe purchase if it is quiet at night.

Another "new guy" question

recording from 301 guide to dvd?
