301 Reciever Problems

I have a camp site at which I was a subscriber until last year. Dish installed without contract but after a few months of a "inactive" status they told me I had to pay a reconnect fee so I passed and sent back their receiver.

Anyhow to the problem: I just bought 2 301 receivers to use prepaid service for the summer. All seemed well until the receivers arrived and I hooked them up at the camper. Both come up green all the way for a second. Then go to a 0 signal and don't find a switch (which isn't installed). But the guy next door has a Viewsat FTA receiver, which when plugged in gets 98% signal, and gets channels like 100, and 216 with no problem.

I bought the receivers from Dish Depot and they seem great to deal with. But a couple of emails back and forth and he is telling me the 301 won't work with a Dish 1000.4. I have a 1000.2 at home and the receivers work (although I don't need to use them there). The dish at my camper was installed before I had the 1000.2 installed at home so I'm assuming it's older. A friend has a Dish 500 he said I could have so maybe that's an option too. I'm not exactly good at pointing the dishes but would like to get this stuff working.

Can anyone tell me a way to get the prepaid receivers going aside from putting up a new dish? Is there any kind of switch or amp that will do the trick?

If you have a DISH 1000.4 only VIP receivers will work on most channels I believe tran.29 on 61.5 still has MPEG2 signals. Your 301s may need a software download before they will work.
