211k with external hard drive - lost pause/rw/ff live tv

I have a 211k setup with an external hard drive (500 GB).
Been working great for almost 2 yrs.
Recently, I cannot pause, ff, rw etc on live tv.
I can still do it for recorded shows, but not with live tv.
It's almost as if the hard drive is no longer buffering the 1hr of live tv anymore.
The DVR screen shows I still have approx 30 hrs left of HD recording space, so I assume there is sufficient space on the disk to buffer 1hour of live TV.
I really do not want to delete any recorded shows, but if I need to do so to get live tv pause/ff/rw functionality, I will.
Has anyone ever seen this problem before?
I also tried re-booting the receiver and this did not help.

Can you still record new shows on the EHD? It sounds like the drive no longer is being written to.

Try another drive or get Dish to give your 211k a re-hit, mine needs that ...

I am pretty certain it recorded some shows over the weekend, but I only saw the buffering problem this morning.
I will try and record something tonight and also ask Dish for a "hit" and see if this helps.
I just don't want to delete any recordings if I don't have to...

Cool, mine won't recognize the 2 drives I have, it's hooked up to a FPTV so I hate to turn it on just for that...

Well, after I returned home from work all seemed ok.
Strange, but I am happy it is back to normal.
Thanks to those who responded.
