I don't suppose anyone out there knows of any tricks to make the 211 operate with a Dish UHF remote, rather than the standard IR. I'm finishing up a new room in the basement that includes a wall mounted plasma with the 211 in an A/V closet and I'd really like to be able to keep the Dish style remote. I know I can get some of the leap frogs things, but I would prefer the functionality to be built-in.

If there is no way to mod anything to do this, then what's the best recommended way to convert from IR. I've heard there are converters that can be installed in place of 1 of the batteries in the remote than will change it to UHF and then there is a small receiver that would sit in the closet near the 211, but I've never seen one.

UHF PRO Platinum Plus UHF Upgrade Kit

guess I should have researched a little more before posting. I've stumbled upon the UHF PRO Platinum Plus UHF Upgrade Kit, which appears to be able to add the functionality that I want, while still being able to keep a Dish remote. One quick question though: does the converter need to be placed in front of the 211 receiver or can I simply set it on top of it in the closet? Thanks.

The converter box has good, multi-directional IR Blasters, so as long as it can bounce the signal to the 211, you're OK. Also, it comes with an IR Extender which you plug into the converter and can stick an IR Transmitter right over the IR Receiver on the front of 211, try it without first, and if you need, add it in.

will it control other devices as well...

Can I use this dishnetwork UHF conversion kit to control other devices as well? I'd like to stick my DVD player in the closet w/ the 211 and use the dish conversion kit to control my dvd player by programming the UHF remote with the proper code...will the device do this or can it only control a single dish network receiver? Thanks.

It will only control the Dish receiver. Your other components only have IR capability. However, you could get one of these. I use it to control a stereo receiver tucked away in a cabinet from the Dish remote after I programed the remote code for it.

I know that the dvd player and A/V receiver are only IR, so you are saying that the DishNetwork UHF Pro kit that accepts the RF signal from the remote can only convert signals for the receiver. If I programmed the RF Dish remote with the proper code for the DVD player wouldnt the converter still be able to convert this signal to IR and blast it to the DVD player?

If I need to buy a device like you've listed then there really isn't a need for the DishNetwork conversion kit is there? Can't I just continue to use the IR Dish remote and let this 3rd party converter convert/extend the signal for the 211 as well as the other devices (DVD, etc)?

From what I can tell the Dish extender does not allow for an additional IR "bug" that sticks over the IR sensor. With the Next Gen, you can buy/add them for more units.

The conversion kit that DISH supplies includes a normal DISH UHF PRO Remote. Those remotes transmit satellite commands in UHF, but all other device commands are sent in IR. What you can do is not get the DISH conversion kit but instead get a PowerMid remote extender or similar device. They sell them at Radio Shack, little black pyramid looking deals.

The dish uhf pro upgrade kit will work fine for what your wanting, just tape the ir transmitter over the eyes in front of the 211. I think their about $18 or so, if you ask customer service nicely, they *might* send you one at no charge.

211 or 612
