I'm watching the opening ceremonies live right now on BBC. I have no use for NBC's 1 hour delay "in context' version of the opening ceremony.

For all of you who will watch this on NBC, I wonder how much of the actual ceremony you'll actually see because NBC wants to keep it "in context(lots of commercials & stupid puff pieces)?"

NBC is delaying the opening ceremony to have time to "curate" the coverage in order to provide proper context.
"We think it's important to give context to the show," said NBC Sports chair Mark Lazarus. "These opening ceremonies will be a celebration of Brazilian culture, of Rio, of the pageantry, of the excitement, of the flair this beautiful nation has. We think it's important that we are able to put that in context for the viewer so that it's not just a flash of color."

Very annoyed with all the commercial breaks on NBC. I wonder if the 4K feed later tonight and tomorrow morning will be much better.

Well I was able to watch the BBC broadcast until NBC started broadcasting, then BBC went off the air because I wasn't using VPN, & NBC has broadcast rights for the U.S.
I gave up watching the rest of the opening ceremonies, & from what I read about the constant commercial bombardment, I didn't miss a thing.

I watched the 4K feed on DIRECTV last night for about 20 minutes, and during that time they have no commercial breaks which was nice. It seemed as though the regular NBC feed had about 4 minutes of coverage then 6 minutes of commercials.

Both the regular NBC feed and the 4K feed had people talking throughout the ceremony, however the 4K talking people was much better than Matt, Merideth and Hoda.

I started watching the opening ceremony on NBC, too many commercials IMO.

i tuned in to one of my local channels and found the ceremony was quite delayed on NBC, this local channel is public television, no commercial breaks.

"NBC Live Sports" is my new Oxymoron. I attempted to watch Formula 1 Qualifying live, but NBC Sports did not have it (Premier League Football instead) so I figured it would be on MSNBC, CNBC, or one of the other Comcast NBC channels. Nope. I fired up my Olympics-branded NBC Sports app on my AppleTV and I see Formula 1 Qualifying live from Belgium. :up Except when I launched the stream, I got the obligatory Honda advertising and then five seconds of live F1 stream and commentary, followed by the placard "Your program will return in a moment", but it never did. Every time I exited and started the stream back up, it was the same: Honda ad, 5 seconds of Belgium F1 qualifying video, then the placard.

After the Olympics, I had hoped that NBC Sports might realize the value of "Live" sports. I guess I had better lower my hopes...
