My point was that they could have had the Big Time Recvr that they so desperately need, had they not passed on thier pick.

Top teams have depth.
Look at all the injuries the Steelers have this year and they are still there.
They've been down that road before and still came up with 11-12 wins.
Not saying losing Brady wouldn't be a big loss.
When a team offers you 6 draft picks to move up a few slots, you take it. Unless of course you're on the verge of a Super Bowl and in need of just one key piece. The Browns did what's best to rebuild their team with many holes. Not just at WR.

Oakland saw their chance to make the Carson Palmer/Hue Jackson re-marriage happen, and they went for it. With a huge three and a half year contract. Not criticizing them at all, and it certainly may work out for them...(but don't forget, one playoff victory this year and Palmer winds up costing you TWO first round draft picks instead of one!)
Just agreeing it furthers your argument about the microwave mentality of today's NFL.

One HUGE advantage you have at this point this year is the fact that he (Luck) will make a amount of money that is already determined for the most part thanks to the Rookie Sal Cap.
At least thats the way I think it turned out after the lockout.
Also the #1 pick once again is something teams want again.
THAT my friend, is your opinion...and apparently the opinion of another. Not that black and white. 1st and foremost, he has not played with his starting WR corp for most of his reign as the starting QB AND the best player on his team. IF ANY QB would have had 2/3 starting WRs and the starting RB, who happens to also be their best player missing. Hard pressed to state they would be having a Drew Brees type year.
Have they invested HUGE on Palmer, hell yeah. Does he merit 1st choice as the starting QB..? YES, not so much for the contract and the picks, but because EVERYONE has stated he was a vast improvement at QB than Campbell was. The fact that the Raiders gave up a ton makes it more desperate...but truth be told, at QB.. Palmer is the more polished QB.
Wouldn't that be a "disadvantage"?? If the #1 overall is soo coveted, then why would another team want to trade it?
I think with Palmer having a whole off season and training camp next year, the Raiders will be VERY happy with him.
None of the top receivers are at Stanford, that's for sure!
The kid Blackmon at Oklahoma State looks like a stud, there was a kid from Oklahoma who was supposed to be just as good but got hurt early, the kid Jones from North Carolina looked good in the Fleegle Bowl the other day....

The Browns have a lot of holes to fill. A pass rushing DE, another CB opposite of Hayden, a hard hitting LB, Right Tackle, Running back (if Hillis won't be back), WR, etc, etc.
But yes, if we don't draft Luck, we NEED to get Colt some offensive weapons this year. Justin Blackmon out of Okla State is supposed to be the best of the bunch.
Not positive how happy they'll wind up being, but I do agree Palmer deserves a full training camp and a full season before we decide if he's lost anything off his fastball. My point was never to criticize the Palmer move...I understand why they made it.

If we hang on to our two #1's, I think we'd be in position to draft both Trent Richardson (RB, Alabama) AND a WR later in the round
Raiders did the trade for different reason. They did not do it because 'hey, there is a better option than Campbell, let's go and get him.' Because if THAT was the case, they would have done that BEFORE the season would have started. They made that trade because they thought...and many others did too...and in the end, it did turnout to be a season ending injury. They were a thinking they are playoff team and they cannot sit there and pray Boller does not screw it up. Remember, they lost McFadden in the next game in the 3rd offensive play. So NOW, the team lost the starting QB and the starting RB and best player.... the Palmer move was a desperate move. Even a good, quality QB like Campbell does not grow on trees.
Well whether its your opinion ,mestevos or mine one thing is for sure ,the investment made in Palmer by the raiders guarantees he will be your starter next season.not Jason. He will have no excuses next season if he doesn't meet expectations. And I wouldn't worry about giving up two number one picks because if the raiders make the playoffs I doubt they will win a playoff game.
There is NO DOUBT there is plenty of zip on "his fastball". He has clearly shown it all season. The question has been is his leadership qualities. I would agree with this questioning. Last week a heard a quote that I totally agree with. 'A true QB can lead his team when he has not had a good game to start it, but his leadership determines the end of it(the game)'. Last week, he was able to lead the team with a bad start...I only hope he can add to it.
