Memo to Goodell: Stop being a hypocrite

By Michael Silver, Yahoo! Sports
5 hours, 24 minutes ago

The NFL fined Packers linebacker Clay Matthews(notes) $5,000 for wearing yellow cleats with his nasty throwback uniform.

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu(notes) got docked twice that amount for borrowing a team doctor's cell phone on the sidelines – to assure his wife he was OK after suffering an apparent head injury.

And the Jousting Jims, Harbaugh and Schwartz? After a contentious postgame handshake and bumping incident involving the 49ers' and Lions' charged-up coaches turned into a full-fledged spectacle at Ford Field two Sundays ago, the NFL took swift and decisive action.

Get this: The league reportedly sent out a memo to all 32 teams, reminding everyone to behave at game's end.

Yep, tough love at its finest.

Failing to fine Harbaugh and Schwartz for their conspicuously contentious conduct was beyond weak. Not only did numerous players express this publicly, but as my colleague Jason Cole reported Tuesday, Browns president Mike Holmgren went so far as to put in a call to the league office to express his opinion that both coaches should have been dinged.

Considering that Holmgren is his team's top football executive and a longtime NFL coach, that's kind of embarrassing – though surely not as embarrassing as (gasp) uniform violations.

What colored cleats was Clay Matthews supposed to wear? Honestly,I was too shocked looking at the Packers' uniforms to notice their shoes. Well, actually I did look to see if they were wearing throwback hightop cleats, but I can't take the time to look at every shoe. The Packers helmets that day made me think of Hersheys Chocolate or something else that's brown in color that I won't mention here.

Where did you hear that from? I couldn't find anything about it (if it's even true)

Fortunately it was just a rumor that ESPN was trying to start when they asked their "expert" what were the chances that Tiki Barber would go to either the Lions or Buccaneers because of their running back injuries. The "expert" assured that nobody was ringing his phone,so the chances were very slim. Besides, there were other running backs out there, like Clinton Portis & some other names I've forgotten, younger than Tiki who would have a better shot at getting called, but haven't naturally. ESPN had the title tease "Tiki to Detroit?" in the list of subjects on the left side of the screen. I saw it,thought "they're(the Lions) crazy." Then they had their "ask the expert" segment that that was part of,& he said "no way." So put that rumor to rest,ESPN was just trying to stir things up.

And this is why some people don't care for ESPN anymore. If they stop getting so hyped up about the littlest thing happening in sports and cut down on their ridiculous carriage rates, then people may actually start to like that channel again. I swear if it wasn't for MNF and some of the college football games they carry, nobody would be watching ESPN anymore because people are tired of them stirring up stupid rumors and creating a bunch of BS. I'll stop right there because I don't want to hijack the thread. Anyway, Tiki is not coming to Detroit and I guess that's it.

It all depends on HOW it was brought up.
As you know, the Lions don't have any RB's anymore ... they need to find someone.
No, I do not want Tiki, at all.

Thats like hearing a "Sound Bite" vs the entire conversation.

Some NFL Predictions/Observations that I'm Making

No reason why I'm doing this. I just felt like it so here we go.:)

1. Between the dolphins, rams, and colts, I'm predicting at least one of those teams will be 0-16 by the end of the season. Which one is still anybody's guess.

2. Speaking of the Colts, after their disastrous performance on their last Sunday night football game, I think their next scheduled SNF game on Week 13 against the Patriots will be flexed out. We all know at this point that the Pats will destroy the Colts in that so I'm sure NBC/NFL have enough common sense to move it out of SNF and bring in a worthy game that people want to see. My guess is that the replacement game will be the Lions vs Saints game and I'm not just saying that because I'm a Lions fan, but because if you actually look at the week 13 schedule, that game looks like the best one in week 13 so far.

3. If the Lions get their act together and start winning and the Packers actually lose a game or two, we'll definitely see a neck-in-neck race for the NFC North title between these two teams in the 2nd half of the season. These two teams play each other on thanksgiving and in week 17 and I'm sure those games will be the most exciting ones to see in the 2nd half of the season.

4. We're already seeing a wild-card race in the AFC between the Bengals, Bills, Ravens, Raiders and Jets and that will definitely continue but I think the Jets have the smallest chance of winning in that race. In the NFC, it's between the Lions, Falcons, Bucs, and Bears. If the Lions win the NFC North, then I think the Bucs and Bears have a chance for the No. 6 spot. If not, my prediction is Lions and Falcons for both WC spots.

5. My last prediction is that we'll probably see more title races for the AFC West between the Chargers and the Raiders, and possibly in the NFC South and NFC East depending on how good the Saints, Bucs, Falcons, Giants, and Cowboys actually are this year.

Looking forward to 10 more weeks of exciting NFL Football!

I think Miami has a pretty good shot at 0-16.

I think FOX will protect that game, or the GB v NYG game, depending on how well the Giants are playing around that time.
