Eyewitness to the crash, Kevin Chryst, had just wrapped up playing a gig at a Portland club with his band (The Staxx Brothers) at around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, when he saw the entire event happen.

"Out of nowhere I hear this screaehing tires burning," Chryst said. "And from behind me, as I turn around, the Chevelle is already sideways, hauling $@% across the intersection and directly into the tree, the water fountain and the light pole that I was standing right next to.

He continues...

"There's a report online that says the streets were icy," Chryst said. "I'll tell you what, it was about 40 degrees and no ice was on the ground."
