by the way have the finals always started so late??????? i don't remember. its irritating . this sunday at 8pm. i don't get that one. start at 7:30pm!!!!!! this series win or lose will be the end of me lmao

This is another example of a major professional league run by the networks.

yep. beats me why they didn't use it. even dirk was surprised

As soon as Dirk started to make his move they should have fouled him. That would have left 4-5 seconds for the Mavs to run a play and get a shot off instead of giving up an easy layup. Brain fart by Coach Spo....

Willing to bet it was in the last contract where the networks determine the start times.

Actually, NBA Finals games starting at 9:00 ET goes back to the mid-80's (right after the dreaded tape delay era on CBS). However, Sunday games typically started at 3:30 ET until several years ago, when they too were moved to primetime.

I agree it does suck for us in the Eastern time zone, when games generally end around midnight. Heck, I still remember 1986 like it was yesterday when the Celtics defeated Houston on a Sunday afternoon at the old Garden to win the NBA Championship. That game started at 1:00 ET, and by the time it ended and celebration was covered it was around 4:00.............leaving almost 5 hours of daylight after CBS' coverage ended. That's unheard of in this day and age.

Either way...I hate it and I guess the NBA thinks it has more than enough fans so they don't need to have their games early.

The games in the 1987 series started around 7pm or so if memory serves me right. When my Lakers beat your Celtics. :D

The last afternoon NBA Finals game- game 1 of the 1991 Lakers-Bulls Finals, which had an afternoon start (Sunday at 3:30 PM)

...NOW, according to the Star Telegram out of Dallas, the Heat had supposedly "over celebrated" the 3-pointer that Wade hit that gave them a temporary 15 point lead just because Lebron punched Wade after the big shot.

ROFLMAO! Dallas media doing whatever it can to motivate itself.

...absolutely priceless the bullsh** that is printed.:haha:haha:haha:haha

Did a little research on Celtics NBA Finals start times:

In 1984, game 1 had a 1 PM Eastern start, game 3 a 3:30 PM start, game 6 a 3:30 PM start- Boston lost each of those games.

They were 4-0 in games that series with a 9 PM Eastern time start.

1981- the infamous tape delay series. Games 3 and 4 were the only live ones.

1986- Bill mentioned the title-clinching game's 1 PM start. Games 1 and 3 had 3 PM start.

1976- 3 days off between the first two games. Game 3 in Phoenix had a local start of 10:30 AM :)eek:), the now-legendary game 5 ended god knows when after midnight.

Looking forward to tonight's game. The Mavs made it a series with their great comeback win the other night, but I think D-Wade leads the Heat to victory tonight.
