2009 NBA Playoffs

Eh, it's not over yet, im sure bigger leads have been lost in less time, no? I'm not a big basketball fan though so no idea. Double digits with a minute or two though and yeah, it's over. I actually hate the end of basketball games, fouls should be a penalty not a tool.

Like they showed at halftime, Orlando just wanted this more.

When you're wrong, you're wrong.

I didn't think the Magic had a chance in this series, but they showed what a great team they are.

Congrats to the Magic and their fans! :)

Also, congrats to the Cavs on a GREAT year. It was a great run, guys. Go get 'em next year! :)

Let's ALL give the Magic credit. The Cavs DIDN'T choke, the Magic were just the better team. Saying otherwise would actually be dissing the Magic.

Game 6 Reaction- A Surprising End To A Surprising Series

Well, I did not see this coming- the Orlando Magic eliminating the Cavaliers and advancing to the NBA Finals.

This is not the outcome I predicted when the series started, but Orlando earned this win tonight, IMO.

Got a LOT of thoughts:

1. See the three, be the three. When the Magic are hot from three-point range, it can be frightening (game 4 of this series, that 22-three game against Sacramento)

2. Missed shots by the Cavs. It can doom any team- just ask the Nuggets.

3. I can't imagine what HD's feeling like, but I know this feeling. In 2006-07, my Buffalo Sabres had an eerily similar year- best record overall, lose in Conference Finals.

4. IMO, Orlando winning one on the road was the most important (and crucial) game of the series. Given how home-court usually holds up in the NBA Playoffs, that was a big thing. Most teams can win a series by stealing one on the road and holding serve at home (see Nuggets/Mavs and Lakers/Jazz- they also got that one road game they needed)

5. Superman was in the building. When Dwight Howard was on his game (games 1, 4, and 6), it was pretty damn scary at times. When he took down that shot clock in game 1 with that big dunk- could that have been an omen of what was to come?

6. The Cleveland sports drought. Unfortunately, it's going to continue, but Cleveland fans are not alone. I am a Buffalo sports fan- I FEEL YOUR PAIN! I haven't been spoiled with titles myself, so we're in the same boat.

7. Sometimes, a team has to go through a tough loss before triumphing.

Sandra, your Rangers went through similar heartbreak- best-record overall in 1992, surprising playoff loss, but won it all in 1994.

Jimbo, your Red Wings has a record-breaking 62 win, 131-point season in 1995-96, but lost in the Conference Finals. They came back to win it all the next year.

BillD- 2003 Red Sox followed their heartbreaking ALCS loss with a World Series win a year later.

Cybok- 15-1 Steelers lost the AFC Title game on their home-field- won it all a year later.

8. Finally, I have to give props to Orlando. As someone who picked the Cavs to win the series, I'm not going to be a sore loser like I was with Michigan State and Villanova during the NCAA Tournament. Orlando is a VERY good team- I think they have a good nucleus- Superman, Hedo, Rashard- and Stan Van Gundy will get a chance to win an NBA Title after he got very close 2005 and got screwed out of one in 2006 when Riley swooped in.

This is going to hurt for Cleveland- again- but someday, it'll happen... I hope.

Didn't really seemed like they choked, they just got destroyed in the hustle and effort departments in this game. In the end, I think this ended how everyone but Cleveland fans expected it to, given where we were at in the series.

Props to Orlando

I'd like to give my two cents on the Magic.

Unlike the NCAA Tournament when I acted bitter towards Michigan State and Villanova, I am NOT going to disregard what Orlando did.

They played to their dominant strengths- Superman, three-point-shooting, and an underrated bench that contributes when necessary.

They made the best deadline acquisition by getting Alston from the Rockets.

They came back time and time again when everything seemed to be against them. They are R-E-S-I-L-I-E-N-T. Consider:

Lost last-second heartbreakers to Philly, but still persevered with big performances- Turkoglu's winning shot in game 4, stepping up in Dwight Howard's absence in game 6.

Against Boston (Sorry, Bill)- after losing game 5 the way they did, everybody wrote them off, and look what happened.

In this series- they did what I thought could not be down- beat the Cavs on the road.

Can't argue with those credentials.

If you go to NBA.com, EVERY expert picked the CAVS to win this series. Everyone I know certainly did. Its the very definition of a choke. But you knew they were in trouble the first time they lost at home against the magic. I think they thought they were going to coast into the finals and if they had trouble they would just ride Lebron to victory. Heck the Magic barely got by a crippled Celtics team.

Priceless captures..

No.

To me, a choke is when a very good team loses to a far inferior team (see Mavericks/Warriors 2007 or the Spurs and Suns against the Rockets 1995).

This is along the lines of Blazers/Lakers 1991 or Pistons/Heat 2006- good team loses to a team that is also good.

It's not like Orlando was a low-seed ala the 1995 Rockets.

Witness: A good old fashioned butt kicking.

There's nothing crueler than going out to that goodbye chant. Plus we got to see the montage of Cleveland sports failures that they showed. :D

Congrats to the Magic. They are much better than I expected.

Wow talking about sore loser. Lebron leaves the arena w/o talking to reporters.
That is def low for the so called Best Player in the NBA .. HMMM

I don't recall there being a rule that says all NBA players are required to speak to reporters at all times.

The athlete has their own right whether they want to talk to reporters or not.
