2009 NBA Playoffs

No defense and zero rebound effort got the Heat a good ole fashion ass whuppin! BUT, it is ONLY game 1 and things will be a little tight tomorrow/next game.

64 points?! 7 points in the 4th quarter?! By a playoff team?! How.... why?!

Sorry Salsa, but the Heat got WORKED by the ATL last night! This was no sight for women and children. It was a manslaughter!

i hope you're right because that was nasty last night! embarrassing is what that was!

Frankly, I still don't understand why the Magic go away from giving Dwight Howard the ball down the stretch. He's 6'11 and 265lbs. He's practically unguardable. I always hear folks give Stan Gundy WAY too much credit he deserves in somehow being this genius coach, yet he still doesn't understand how to win in the playoffs.

You're absolutely right. Howard should get a touch in the paint on 90% of the team's possessions.

Exactly. There's something wrong with your offensive game plan when Courtney Lee and Rafer Alston get more shot attempts than Dwight Howard.

Oh, and the part about me saying D.Howard is practically unguardable. Read the stat line for yourself....

Dwight Howard: 11 for 13, 31 pts, 16 reb, 2 ast
Courtney Lee: 8 for 17, 18 pts, 2 reb, 1 ast
Rafer Alston: 5 for 15, 15 pts, 2 reb, 5 ast

Superman had an 85% FG percentage from the field, yet only got the 3rd most shot attempts on the team!

Sabres, the Cavs had this game the entire way. The close score in the first half was only an illusion. We controlled the game the entire way and pulled away when it was necessary.

I don't mean this as an insult Pistons fans, but they certainly looked lifeless at times. Uncontested shots and defense that is very untypical of past Pistons teams. I am shocked that a team with this many veterans seemed completely uninspired. Almost like they didn't care. If I were a Pistons fan, I don't know who I'd be more pissed at, the players or the coach.

PS, did you guys see that half court shot by LBJ at the end of the half? WOW!

BTW, the MVP's stat line read as follows: 38 pts, 8 reb, 7 ast

For those of you who missed it.....

I'm beginning to think that along with this shot and the 60 Minutes half court underhand shot, that Powerade commercial where LeBron was reigning 90 foot jumpers was no special effect. :D

I saw the game and it was a tale of teammates not helping on the boards....not helping on defense and standing around with the look of "bail us out Wade"....it was a terrible display of ANY basketball.......

You gotta go with what the defense gives you.... IF they are double and triple teaming Howard, you do not KEEP feeding him. It is your OPEN teammates responsibility to hit the open shot....and they didn't.

All work and no play make Dwayne Wade a dull boy.....

Wade, Haslem declare 'no-go-out policy' prior to their trip to Atlanta.

"The veteran guys before us, when we came in to the league like Brian Grant, Eddie Jones, that's what they believed in," said Wade, referring to two former Heat captains. "So this is the core of what we know. This is focus time. This isn't play time. Play time is the summer. You can do what you want in the regular season, too. Not now. We're the leaders, so we're just going from what we know."

Unfortunately for the Heat, the "all work and no play" mantra didn't exactly produce the results they were after in their first game in the ATL.

Double and triple teams don't seem to bother Superman. He shot 11 for 13 from the field. Meaning an inhuman 85% with only 2 misses!!

I could understand if the Big Man was facing adversity and missing shots, but he was the most effective man on their team last night and Stan and company completely forgot about him in the final minutes of a close game! You'd think after early exits in the last few years from the playoffs, they'd change their approach and feed the big man. Guess not.

The did not completely forget.... Did you watch the game? He got PLENTY of touches....he just dished out to the open man and they didn't make the baskets dude. On times he had the one-on-one, he would shoot or if he had the advanatge on the double team, he would shoot....but if the double or triple teamhad him ad the disadvantage, he would dish out like a smart center is SUPPOSE to do. IF he teammates makes the shots....Howard might have had 20 assists...!! The box score does not tell the whole story....

Still doesn't explain the final minutes. Feed the big man when the game's on the line. Not Rafer Alston.

Oh well. It's one game as you said. Hopefully Stan Van Gundy is smart enough to make the adjustments.

Simple fact was....and this is a man talking to you that is a '6ers fan.....They were double and triple teaming him....he would dish out when he got into a pickle and they wouldn't hit shots. Rafer Alston played for Van Gundy in Miami so he knows what Rafer can do. IF I am not mistaken, he is a runner-up or 3 point shooting contest winner TWICE....but I could be wrong.

Question: Why isn't Chauncy Billups a part of the MVP discussion?

Not to the degree that LeBron, Kobe or D-Wade deserve talk, but Chauncey deserves at least a few 3rd or 4th votes.

His presence on the Nuggets is calming. He's made AI look expendable and guided Denver to a 2 seed, something that no one expected.

I picked the teams I root based on locality, as in 10 miles down the road from where I live. Difference is, I support them every game of the year, just not when it's fashionable to.

BTW, how did a team you thought was going to "win it all" blow an 18 point lead to the Sixers?! ;)

I dont enjoy watching the sport doesnt mean I dont support them all the time.

Dont ask me, when it turned the channel they were kicking butt.

From my perspective, I think the turning point was when one of the Philly players poked Dwight Howard in the eye.

Thoughts on the weekends action:

1. Well the Blazers did get a good effort from Oden, but other than Roy the rest of the Blazers were no shows....they need a better team effort if they are going to win a game against what looks to be a balanced (finally) Rockets squad.

2. Fear not Celtics fans...not yet anyway....Derrick Rose played out of his mind and Ray Allen was horrid yet the Bulls had to go to OT to top the Celtics in Boston.

3. The Magic choked in the 4th qtr against the Sixers....play smarter not harder Magic.

4. The Heat may also be a one-man show.

5. The Lakers cruised in it's game against Jazz....they need to turn it up a notch before it heads to Utah who have notorious fans get home calls galore.

On this date in history, wow....cannot believe where time flies....Michael Jordan had his classic 63 point game against the Celtics....23 years ago.

I think MJ aged me 23 years in those 3 hours!

You gotta remember, he did that to the vaunted 1985-86 Celtics......on their homecourt! Probably the most incredible individual performance I have ever seen!
