2008 MLB Playoffs

If I'm Tampa I don't even want want to think about the possibility of a Game 7. Last year when the Sox came back Game 7 was a rout, same when they beat the Yankees in 04. As far as I'm concerned TB has one shot left to clinch.

Has ANY baseball team ever held a 3-1 lead, lost games 5 and 6, and held on to win game 7.

I've seen it countless times in hockey, but has it happened in baseball?

ESPN just reported that Drew's walk-off hit was the EXACT time (12:16am ET), EXACTLY five years to the day(October 17) that Aaron Boone hit his pennant winning walk-off homerun.

Creepy.

Interesting. I was thinking during the game that, hold your breath Bill, the Red Sox play like the Yankees teams of old used to. The Yankees were so confident they could win every game. No matter what the situation was the Yankees could muster a rally. I guess that's what winning a few WS will do for you. The question now is are the Rays like the Red Sox used to be; a talented team that would choke when the going got tough?

Rays will win thanks to the Citgo sign - if not thursday, then one of the two games at the Trop.

It's got to mean something that the sign has been up 40 years with no problems and on the eve of a RS elimination game, there is a minor fire at the Citgo sign.

Now the RS must never mess around with the Citgo sign! It must have brought them good luck Thursday in their miracle comeback.

I bet there are going to be Boston PD guarding the sign to keep it from being fixed. :D

I'm still waiting for that unforgettable moment
(last year's Bug Game).

I think tonight is as good as it gets. It was the most exciting playoff game of 2008 at least for me.

You had the Rays owning the RS with a 7-0 lead and it was so dead you could hear a pin clink off the green monster. You had Chip Caray proclaiming the Rays were going to the World Series and the Rays had champaign on the brain. Not that much later, Carey had to put a condition to his Rays going to the World Series remarks (... if the Rays can maintain the lead) and all of a sudden, it's like the Red Sox came alive and scored their 8 unanswered runs to win. Definitely the most exciting game this season (and greatest 3 innings of baseball I've seen in awhile as you saw the big MO swing Boston's way and the Fenway Faithful come alive).

Bill,
Lets hope that the Sox actually show up at the start of the game this time ....
The tend to give up 3-5 runs in the first few innings to the Rays ....

If the Sox get out to a lead in the next game, the pressure moves to Tampa, then lets see how well they play.
Next game is the big one :)

Win or lose, I hope the AL wins it all :D

edit: Didn't someone just say " The Ghost come out in the 7th " ???

Wow! What a comeback by the Red Sox!

I was dozing off during this game last night in the 7th when the score was 7-0 and Boston brought in Papelbon. Then, I woke up in the 9th when it was 7-7 and I literally shouted out, "What the F***" !!!! I just couldn't believe what my tired eyes were seeing. Needless to say, last nights win may have just shifted the momentum in Boston's favor.

As in last year's ALCS, the series will come down to game 6. If Boston can beat the Rays on Saturday, the Rays confidence and mental stability will be shattered like my Indians were after squandering a 3-1 series lead last year.

Hopefully the Beckett vs. Shields matchup will be a showdown for the ages....

I still think that was a travesty- that team, losing to a VERY mediocre Cardinal team.

Given what has happened the last few years, I have to say it:

Were those Cardinals a fluke? I say yes.

You could imagine how we feel in Detroit. Interesting tidbit - the Cardinals are the only NL team to get to the WS twice in the last 11 years.

Word of advice to anyone who thinks Tampa will crumble:

Remember the 2005 Astros.

After the stunning Pujols homer in game 5, they STILL won the series.

I heard that the Padres are shopping Jake Peavy.

Bill, KCK, you guys are Mr. Baseball on this site.

Who do you think could land Mr. Peavy? He'd make some team very happy!

DON'T COUNT YOUR CHICKENS...........................

Got this off the sons of sam horn website.

This is a graphic shown on ESPN's Sportscenter last night, while the Rays were winning 7-0:

Word on sonsofsamhorn.net (where I get my Red Sox fix :D) is that the Red Sox are very interested in the services of Mr. Peavy.

The Dodgers are starving for two starters. Rumors are a swirlin' in Anaheim that the Angels may even look @ Peavy. He is wasting away in Diego.

Who's the biggest NFL disappointment so far this season?

Best World Series of all-time?
