2008-09 College Bowl Season

I agree without a doubt that Utah deserves to be #2. But IF Florida beats Oklahoma (which I personally think they will), how could you rank Oklahoma with two losses ahead of Texas with one loss, AND Texas beat them head-to-head?

IMO, the loser of Florida-Oklahoma will fall to #5.........behind Utah, Texas and USC.
I'd rank Texas over ANY two loss team.

You make a valid argument. I think if either team blows the other away, they should drop to #5 like you say, but if its a very close game, and both teams show great, then #1 and #2 should not be off the table, regardless of the fact the team would be two loss. I also think USC should be above Texas. The way USC man handled OSU (texas barely got by) and the way USC mandhandled the big10 champ.

HD's take on The Fiesta Bowl

1. I was mildly impressed with Fox for giving air time to both schools bands in the pre-game and halftime intermissions. But then just as the "Best Damn Band in the Land" formed Script Ohio and the Alma Mater was starting to bring chills down my spine, Fox went to commercial, cutting it off short!

2. Speaking of commercials, did last night's breaks seem to be more frequent and longer than normal? Kickoff was at 8pm and the game didn't end until near midnight!

3. To start off, Boeckman was under center and Pryor was flanked as a wide-out. Right off the bat I could tell The Vest was going to mix up the play calling, which was good to see.

4. Dominant 1st half by the Buckeyes, although we were only up by 3 at halftime. Even though Beanie and the Bucks ran for nearly 200 yards and Texas had 0 at halftime, you would've thought this statistical beat-down would've meant a bigger lead on the scoreboard.

5. I was very impressed with the pressure the D-Line was able to get on Colt McCoy. He was hit hard often. And yes, I think the 2nd roughing call was completely bogus. That 15 yard penalty kept the Longhorns TD drive alive, which ended up being killer.

6. While Pryor will continue to undergo criticism, I think he played a pretty decent game. Sure he needs to improve on his passing game, but he didn't commit any interceptions or costly turnovers that most Freshman are typically prone to. Early in the game, he showed a lot of poise in the pocket and alluded several sacks as he "glided" away from harms way and turned them into positive gains. Boechman wouldn't have been able to sustain the pressure Pryor was getting the whole game. I'm happy with the way The Vest filtered both QB's in and out to maximize each players strengths.

7. What happened to Beanie Wells in the 2nd half? I don't remember him getting hit hard or being injured on the field, but they kept showing him dazed on the sidelines. Either way, Texas made their adjustments at halftime and looked like a new team in the 3rd Quarter. That hurry up offense by the Horns is brutal on defenses! tOSU made their adjustments to counter in the 4th and opened up the playbook. The Boeckman TD pass to Pryor was awesome!

8. What's with Texas' punter? This is the first time I've seen a kicker, who's not under any sort of pressure, run for his life and kick rugby style towards the sideline. What a spazz!

9. Until last night, Jim Tressel was 4-0 in Fiesta Bowls. While the loss and game deciding TD were quite disappointing, I thought the Buckeyes held their own to one of the best teams in the nation. Many had the Longhorns in the National Championship. Both teams played well and treated fans to quite an exciting finish. By far, the most entertaining Bowl game this season. Credit Colt and the Horns for making a play at the end to win.

10. As for 2009, I wonder when Beanie Wells will decide whether he's going to enter the draft or come back for his Senior year? I think he still feels he has much more to achieve as a Buckeye. Also, I am interested to see Pryor's development as a passer over the offseason. This 6'6' 240lb kid is an athlete with a gifted body. He's LeBron James on the gridiron. As soon as he's finely tuned, I think Pryor will develop into quite the QB for the Bucks. Oh, one more thing: Mark your calendars for September 12, 2009. In the second week of the season, the Bucks play USC at The 'Shoe. Redemption's a bitch Trojans!

Time and time again we've been dealt one hard disappointing loss after another. Once again, my heart felt like it has been ripped out of my chest.

You're not the only one. Remember, being an Ohio sports fan is tough, but it could be worse.

You could be me- a BUFFALO sports fan. After all, Ohio State did get a national title a few years ago against Miami. Buffalo, OTOH- NOTHING!

Mark your calendars for September 12, 2009. In the second week of the season, the Bucks play USC at The 'Shoe. Redemption's a bitch Trojans!

Let's see- most of that defense will be gone. IMO, let's see what happens when much of that vaunted defense goes pro.

Good God! You couldn't bear to watch the post-game stuff and instead watched "Leaving Las Vegas"! The movie with Nick Cage where he loses everything in life and decides to go to Vegas to drink himself to death?! I can't imagine a less appropriate film to watch after going through another painful loss in the Buckeyes game.

Yes, terrible choice. I thought it was the one where Nicolas Cage is a policeman and he picks up or tries to pick up the waitress. How dumb.

I'm a Nicolas Cage fan so I would have watched it anyway, but last night was not the night. I'm going to watch the rest tonight. Please, no hints about the second half of the movie...

I actually thought some of the commercial breaks at the end were short. But yes, there certainly were a lot of them.

3. To start off, Boeckman was under center and Pryor was flanked as a wide-out. Right off the bat I could tell The Vest was going to mix up the play calling, which was good to see.

Would have liked to have seen that all year. You can practice it in September against the patsies.

4. Dominant 1st half by the Buckeyes, although we were only up by 3 at halftime. Even though Beanie and the Bucks ran for nearly 200 yards and Texas had 0 at halftime, you would've thought this statistical beat-down would've meant a bigger lead on the scoreboard.

Penalties stopped a couple of their early drives.

Tressel also mixed in blitzes nicely.

Boeckman should not have played the whole game. But he should have played more, both in this game (especially on running plays) and the whole season.

7. What happened to Beanie Wells in the 2nd half? I don't remember him getting hit hard or being injured on the field, but they kept showing him dazed on the sidelines. Good point, I didn't see Wells get hit either.

8. What's with Texas' punter? This is the first time I've seen a kicker, who's not under any sort of pressure, run for his life and kick rugby style towards the sideline. What a spazz!

I wonder if he wasn't told to do that, and if he sees blockers and some open field he's allowed to run it. His head was up the whole time looking at the field.

Definitely brought respectability back to the program.

I wonder about our defense next year too. Wilhelm to Hawk/Carpenter to Laurinitis to who?

Just a couple of observations:

Beanie wells might as well stay in school and prove he can get through a season without getting hurt. Too fragile for the NFL.

Pryor would not have helped MICHIGAN this season, he can't throw the ball hard enough to break glass.

Ain't that the truth....LMAO!! And HDD mentioned he didn't make mistakes/no interception...no wonder, he could barely get the ball to a receiver. Very good runner....and that's about it. After his 4th or 5th pass, it was run 1st and pass only if absolutely necessarry.

Actually, Pryor had a lot of zip on the two point conversion try the tight end dropped. It was a wonderful pass, hard and accurate. Perhaps too hard...

keep talking smack florida boy. they only reason you are is because florida does not have to play texas.

Id be happy facing any Big12 team vs say USC... A team that can play defense. Texas got beat (although they won) by the buckeyes. Plain and simple. Id say the same if say FLA only beats OK by a field goal. FLA needs a 2-3 TD win to make a big impression.

Nope that's [ame="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110167/"]It Could Happen to You (1994)@@AMEPARAM@@http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTM4NzUyMjMwMF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwODEwMzc5._V1._SX93_SY140_.jpg@@AMEPARAM@@BMTM4NzUyMjMwMF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwODEwMzc5@@AMEPARAM@@SX93@@AMEPARAM@@SY140[/ame]. I just saw that for the first time the other day. Good flick.

I liked that movie, just a bit depressing that's all.

Everything else skipped on the ground short or was way off. I am CONVINCED that is Boeckman plays most of the game....they win.

All of you guys who have been saying that BIG12 doesn't play defense may be right. Ohio St. wasn't very impressive this season on offense, but I thought they played well enough defensively to have won last night. (With the exception of the last drive). Salsa you are right about McCoy's inflated passing numbers. If Pryor could have completed a couple of passes, they would have blown Texas out. I think Oklahoma may be in trouble Thursday.

OR if Boeckman played most of the game as the QB and line up Pryor as a slot or wing back....

One last thought - Utah and USC have plenty to be pissed about. They deserved a chance to be playing on Thursday as well as Florida and Oklahoma. Their should have been two more games, so we could have gotten this right.
