Hi, I have an 811 and a 501 and I get different signal strengths from each.

The 811 is about 10 points less than the 501 which means I really experience rain fade when watching HD channels here in Hawaii. The HD channels only average about 40 with a 30" dish.

Has anyone noticed that the 811 doesn't receive as strong a signal?

Thanks, Dune

when comparing, make sure you are using the same transponder as they might vary from transponder to transponder. 11 and 12 are good ones to check.

Also, are you checking the signal strengths using the same piece of cable? If you are using them in seperate rooms, a longer cable, or lesser quality can cause that kind of signal reduction.

Yep, using the same transponders when comparing.

Both receivers come in to the same room and are hooked up to an AV Receiver. The feed come off of a multi switch and are two seperate cables. Maybe I should get on the roof and switch cables at the switch to check?

The 811 does register lower signal. Be glad it's only 10points. The 522/322s register almost 20 points lower than the other 5xx and 3xx series receivers.

With my dish peaked to maximum, a 501/301 will register about 118 on SAT 119 transponders 11-12. SAT 110 comes in around 110 on transponders 11-12. Doing nothing with the dish, swap receivers and my 522 registers only 100 on 119, T11-12 and 93-95 on 110 T11-12.

I had an 811 hooked up and it read upper 90s for 110, and around 107 for 119, T11-12.

I did test the signal with rainfade. I hooked up to a temporary dish peaked in only half way, watched the 522 drop out at the same level as the others, 35-40. Engineering says it has a different threshold. Not really considering it will drop out first before a 501/301 will.

right equipment?

Speaking with my money...
