2 dish setup?

Hi all, I was following another post about this subject, but was alittle confused because my situation may be alittle different.

I have a 1000.2 but cant get the 129 sat because of a tree prob.
The 110 and 119 are perfet signals. So my best option is to mount
a second dish to get the 129...or preferably the 61.5 sat.

I talked to dish and they said I could get the 61.5 here in MI. They told me I just need a DP34 switch. And after following the other thread about this....seems like I need a DP Dual head for my older 500 dish I still have?

So my question is.....is that all i need for the 2nd dish (500) to get the
61.5 or 129 sats?

Thanks for any help. This forum is extremely usefull as a Dish consumer!

well.....

Don't quite know why you would need that 34 switch at all - the 1000.2 lnb has an input for that exact reason - picking up an extra satellite.

You installer I would hope know what to do. You simply need to put up a 500 dish with dual and point that sucker at 61.5. Run a line from that dish to your 1000.2 dish and plug it into the input.....check switch.....done! Nice easy job for that tech.

Where are you located in Michigan?

As said above the 1000.2 has an input for another satellite location built in. You would just need a Dpdual or If you already have a DP Twin or Dp Quad on your Dish 500. You just have to set the Scew on the Dish500 to 90 and the elevation will be around 25 - 27 depending on where you are in Mi. If you are using a quad or a Twin it makes a differnce what port you use. So make sure you have signal on that port for 129.

Here is more info on my situation.

I have a OTA for locals....so no worry about dish locals.

Im in Grand Rapids MI.

The 500 dish I have was used to get 110 and 119 with the earlier
version of HD programming. I have a 211 and a 411 hooked up now
with the 1000.2 dish. I have cable ran for 3 and 4th tvs and recievers...
but not needed at this point.

Im not sure which head is on the dish 500 yet. There is a part #
on the head....will that tell which kind it is...or I can plug it in later
and see what the switch check indicates. (im at work now).

As I said....problem with getting the 129 sat....is a large tree. So not
sure about being able to get it elsewhere on the property. So I was
hoping that I could get the 61.5 sat to minimize wiring and changing
the wiring job the installer just did a couple days ago. I can do all the
instalation from here on. So I'm just hoping to install a 2nd dish just to
pick up the HD feeds I cant get off the 110 and 119 sats.

Thanks again for help all......I cant get a straight answer from any local or
dish employees yet!

also...

I just found an old dish 4720 dual LNBF dish kit here at work. It is only a single head with 2 connection points on it. #BSCH84P60 lot E 80.

The other LNBF off the 500 I have at home, has double heads with 2 connectors on it. I will ID that unit later when I get home and hook up
a make-shift dishmount to find a spot on my property to pull in either 61.5 or 129. Then I will know for sure what LNBF is on that 500.

It will say DP or DishPro on it. If all it says is digital LNBF then it is a legacy unit.

Try for the 129 there are a few channels that you would miss.

129 in GR is located at compass heading 248 with an elevation of 26

61.5 is located at 150 and 37

What company put up your 1000.2? Why would they install it if they could not get 129? They should have put in a wing dish for 61.5 if that was the case.

...

Dave, thanks for your info....much helpful.

I actually did the initial instal. The former home owner had a 500 system. I took my 1000.2 from my old home as the new owners
were going with another service.

I couldnt wait a few days for the installer to get here. I needed to see a few hockey games. So after I switched the 500 dish out with my 1000.2 and watched tv for a few days, I had the installer redo all the cables for 4 tvs. He was here for about 2.5 hours. The wiring job was complex because of a crawl space in part of the home, and on 2 levels as well....and also because I had him set up cables for 4 tv's. So he was pretty worked after being there for so long. I basically told him I would either trim the tree that was blocking the 129 sat...or do the 2nd dish myself. He did not have the correct equipment in his truck to do the wing dish....becase he knew he was just installing a 1000.2 that was already there in place.

So it was'nt the fault of the installer at all. I have to run several cables for my OTA anyway....and I like doing the work anyway. I just needed some info on setting up the wing dish. I called the main office to the installer and got some good info from a tech there finally. One thing he told me was to make sure the 1000.2 would not get a 129 signal if the wing was set to pick up 129. He said just move the skew out of 129 range as much as possible, as when more leaves drop the 1000.2 could get the 129 also..and mess up the setup with a wing dish. But Im pretty sure that the wing is going to be pulling in 61.5 from the angles you have gave me for Grand Rapids. Tomorrow morning I will find out for sure.

missing channels?

OH yea.....what channels will I miss with going with the 61.5 instead of the 129? Is there a chart that shows what channels each sat pulls in?

Good luck getting dish to understand your situation. I had the exact same problem at my home, no where to set the Dish 1000+ without any good view of the 129 location. I live in the St. Louis Metro, and through research on this website and others, realized that my local HD's were on 118 except for my RSN which was on 129. Hoping for a quick fix (until next baseball season when I would i would HAVE to have my RSN HD!), I told the installer to install a wing dish to 61.5. He refused, saying my HD locals were on 129. He left without doing the job. He said I had a clear view of the 61.5 location but he couldn't change the work order. I then called the retailer, who ALSO told me the wrong information. I had to track down the owner of the company and SHOW him before he was convinced that my HD locals were indeed on 118.

He sent out a new tech that then told me he couldn't install at the 61.5 location because of line of sight issues. He didn't want to put the wing dish at a different location where there was absolutely no issues, about 10 foot away, which the first tech suggested. Again, he told me that I wouldn't get any locals. with that setup anyway. He left.

Finally, I dropped about 150 bucks and got the tree trimmed. 129 is no problem now!

Point of Story....sometimes its easier to fix the problem then fixing dish's problem!
