120cm dish with C-Band performance - Now with HD!

Hey Cascade that mount arrangement is a great idea. I think I'll try that when I mount up the HH120 for the Patriot when it arrives. For all of you that would like the dimensions of the EITS cone scalar, I should have time to take it off the LNB this weekend and do some measuring. Of course when it's off the dish, I can't be watching F1!

To be honest I don't think it's the quality or strength of the U-bolts that causes the problem, it's when they're overtightened, the bolts supplied with the SG2100 are more than ample for the job.
Overtightening won't strip the threads immediately but when you loosen the nuts to adjust the bracket that's when they become cross-threaded and that'll ruin the U-bolt/nut.

My new U-bolt kit arrived early last week so I'm back in business, thanks Pete! :)

Got an extra U-bolt (since I only stripped one of them), an extra bag of nuts and motor bolts, 2 extra weather boots, and an extra clamp (which the U-bolt secures to)... so I have some spare parts.

I'm considering taking the spare U-bolt I have left around to different hardware stores and trying to find another one...

I have a 90cm offset dish and would like to know which C-Band LNBF will work better for me.

I have been following this thread but haven't really seen a good suggestion for my application.

By the way, this has to be one of the top five threads ever :)

questic....I put the 421 LNB (that PSB sells) on my 90cm and was able to get TBN on G5 ch 3 analog...yes it was fuzzy, but it was a start (both myself & PSB thought my LNB was bad.). Thats as far as I got because it was so humid. This weekend I will be trying :)

If you can hold off until after the weekend, I should have some notes on it

very true....it hasnt become a flame war and there are lots of people viewing :)

Nice to hear you are having some success iceberg :-D

Working on two approaches to C/Ku feeds on Fortec 90CM. Tested C Band feed offset 15 degrees and got watchable pictures on all MPEG satellites but I didn't like the bracket so I trashed it. Work is till in progress and I will post progress later.

Got it but it broke up on me pretty bad. I didn't take time to optimize the scaler before I decided the bracket needed to be redesigned. It was fabricated from sheetmetal and didn't hold the lnb stationary. New brackets will be from aluminum angles pop riveted and bolted together and attached to the factory feed arm. If it works like I hope, I'll post dimensional drawings of them. I also plan to fabricate a clone rayydio's scalar when he posts the dimensions. Tried to get dimensions from his photos but what I measured didn't meet some of the textbook rules for scalar designs, so I don't trust my dimensions derived from the photos.

caddata, I was looking at the scale of the lnb and cone in one of rayydio's photos. The cone appears to have same measurements of flat scaler, just stepped. Your comments on attaching Ku to ASC 421 are along the lines of my latest interest. But rater than cut the 421, Id like to build an extention that I can cut into. Attached photos are of old dual feed horn.

Alec:

I'm not sure how that "T" transition would be fabricated using round waveguide. I think it needs a septum at the division point and I'm not sure how that would be done or what it wuld look like. That was my idea to have the LNB's symetrical on a comon axis, with the C Band LNB first, you wouldn't have to go to all that trouble, but the ASC 421 might be lost if it didn't work.

OK - First of all let me say I am not an engineer so all dimensions are approximate! Here are the dimensions for the EITS cone scalar.

Inside meansurements -

Outer ring - 6 3/16" Depth - 1 1/16"

Center ring - 5.0" Depth - 1.25"

Inner ring - 3.75" Depth - 1.25"

Outside measurements -

Overall height - 3 5/16"

Height of (Bottom) 1st ring - 1 3/16"

Height of center ring - .75"

Height of top ring - .75"

Hope you guy's find this info usefull!

rayydio, great thanks for data. Cascade, was begging to worry a bit , maybe Mack truck run over cone. Look forward to your test resullts. My attempt at Ku cone to flat converter failed terribly. Tried turnning aircraft grade aluminum on lathe, broke many bits, turned nylon OK for backing plate. Sprayed nylon with aluminum paint for reflection, no go. No soft Aluminum plate in this area. Not to give up. Id like others with Ku Prime Focas scalers to post data on ring depth, ring spacing, Have photos of 8' offset dish with Ku cone, many rings on it. Cone about 6" dia.

Hey PSB, what does one of the 421 LNB's go for? I should be able to get a stronger signal here in the southeast. In theory...
