111th U.S. Golf Open (16-19 June 2011)

No doubt. Based on everything I've seen over the weekend, the golfing public is eager someone like McIlroy...even if he is a European. He is just a nice, likeable kid. ... We shall see.
That's what I remember them saying about Tiger. I like McIlroy too, and I hope he doesn't let his ego drive him over a cliff after he gets a few majors under his belt.

Rory celebrating well last night.........

That's quite true, and I think we need to remember this fact. Tiger was once a likeable fresh-faced kid, but then his ego grew larger than the nation debt, and he decided his publicist would create the "Tiger Woods image" while he did whatever he pleased because, after all, he had Tiger Blood and Adonis DNA in his veins (oops, wrong narcissistic psycho). Anyway, Tiger could have one day looked forward to replacing Jack Nicklaus and/or Arnold Palmer as one of the games elder statesman. Now he's just a douchebag.

Tiger Who?

I was right...the American public is indeed falling hard for McIlroy after we were mauled by and bitterly disappointed by a Tiger, much like celebrity Roy Horn of Siegfried & Roy (pronounced Wah) fame. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised to see McIlroy on the front page of the Nation's two leading newspapers (see photo).

My next question is when are we going to see these two battle head-to-head. Offhand, I only see them playing competitively in the Brittish Open (July) and PGA Championship (August). We shall see.

The very fact that this victory came after such a spectacular disaster at the Masters is more telling than the victory itself, I think.
The lesson to learn keep your nerves in check was learned very fast with no visible side effects.
This can trigger an explosion in interest (and performance) in European golf.

From here going forward only he himself can kill his game...

And hopefully the Cheetah still has the balls to walk into the sunset... for good.

Diogen.
