Are Meemaw and Sheldon's mother the same person? My wife says yes.

No ,one actress is playing Memaw and that is Annie Potts from Desiging Women fame . The other actress I don’t know ,but she sure sounds and looks like a younger Laurie Metcalf of the Roseanne show , and who plays older Sheldon’s mother on Big Bang Theory.

Sheldon's Mom in BBT is played by Laurie Metcalf
Sheldon's mom in Young Sheldon is played by Zoe Perry, who is Laurie Metcalf's daughter.

I think Memaw makes the show. She adds a much needed comedy element. Sheldon's mother on the show is always uptight ,his father is a little low in intelliegence, but has heart and of course the other two kids are even a little dumber in thoughts than the father . Sheldon is like a walking talking Mr. Spock with his logical thought process,but he full of neurosis.

This is one of my favorite new shows. The girlfriend likes it too. I kept it as a timer and seen all the episodes so far.

I know that, but it's relatively easy to just replace her with Annie Potts, especially as the 2 are quiet different and don't seem the same character. And with Annie Potts quickly becoming the breakout character, she'd be perfect to show up at the wedding.

It wasn't needed with Mary, and the actresses are so similar (being mother & daughter).

Annie is too young. They'd have to age her about 30 years. BBT really doesn't change characters.

Being from Texas, with family in East Texas I will say they have the accent down, especially Meemaw’s. I told my wife the way she talks reminds me of my late mother in law’s voice.

I remember those rumors in the 80s and used to taunt my younger brother and his friends, who played D & D with it all the time.
