Worth getting a 2nd hopper??

I also have a two hopper one Joey set up I explained why I would want a two hopper set up to avoid conflicts and if one hopper went I would still be able to watch tv

I'm too considering ordering 2 Hoppers for the convenience of recording enough programming in my household. Because the Hoppers is basically the receiver and is essentially the DVR, would I technically be able to bring one of my hoppers to my summer home and hook it up if it still has the dish hookup where I was previously using an older VIP box?

You would need a Dish 1000.2 and a Node there. Two cables coming off the dish to your node then one cable from the node to the Hopper.

I was stuck with 2 Hoppers and 2 Joeys for 3 TVs as an adopter, and I was going to send the extra Joey back. Instead I discovered that for the $7mo I could hook up the extra Joey to another HDMI in on my main (Hopper) TV, and with simple HDMI buttons on my Harmony remote, use the Joey to have complete control and access to the other Hopper including the EHD. I wont be sending it ack soon.

I ordered 2 h and 2 j setup for install in two weeks - will return one joey. This seems to be the modus operandi.

Just be sure to report back how that works out.

I got two hoppers and a joey (that I didn't want). Installed the hoppers and sent back the joey. The two hoppers can see each others recordings and play them back on either one. All is good...

Just ordered my second Hopper. Should install tomorrow.

...I have thought about getting another Hopper and ditching the Joey altogether, Joey for me is a little limited.
Don't forget that a third Hopper will not integrate with the other two. A dual node supports a max of 2 Hoppers and you need a separate node for the third Hopper which means a completely separate MOCA network. In addition, you need 5 lines from the dish which means a couple of DP44 switches since that's the only way to get that number of feeds.

Edit: I was wrong. A 3-Hopper system will work if you connect the node lines together: http://www.satelliteguys.us/hopper-zone/287591-installing-3rd-hopper.html#post2903300

apparently they will if you connect the nodes

So how much are you folks paying for the 2nd Hopper?

Upgraded from 622. Ordered two hoppers. Had to talk to a special CSR. They gave me the first hopper for free (usually $99) and the second one for $99. I asked for 2 hoppers and no joeys and they said OK, but when the tech came, they had sent a joey. He couldn't get it off the service ticket, so he left it unopened. Called back Dish, a regular CSR said no problem, they would take it back. They sent me a UPS pickup ticket and charged my account $17. Then they gave me a $5 credit for 3 months to offset the charge (almost). Monthly charge went up $11. ($7 for extra tuner and $4 for networking)
Had to sign up for $7 month service contract to get free install. I can cancel that at any time. I'll leave it in for a little while to make sure the setup is stable.

Just got the second Hopper installed. A few integration things I would personally change but it reaffirms my thoughts that this is the absolute best dvr system on the market
