With Dish launching EA on 72.7, did DTV turn off 72.5?

Hey all,

Coming over from the Dish Network forms (yes, I am one of THOSE people). Had a question for those of you who know whats going on up in space. With Dish Network getting ready to roll out the Eastern Arc project at 72.7 and recently turning on transponders at 72.7, has DirecTV in turn kept its service with DirecTV 1R @ 72.5 or will the location be shared similar to 110 and 119?

Why would it be shared? Its not the same orbital location.

Its easily close enough to have interference. But for now, Dish isn't using the Directv TPs. Dish actually only will use 16 TPs at 72.7, with the others for Canada. I believe Directv is soon going to quit using that location.

It is the same orbital location and the DBS frequencies are indeed shared. DirecTV is currently using all of the even transponders and Dish is currently using all of the odd transponders.

They aren't "sharing" per se. 2 satellites operating on separate frequencies, just like 110 and 119. It's just that neither has access to all 32 TP frequencies.

The 72 degrees DBS slot was assigned by the ITU to Canada.

DirecTV leased the frequencies for the even transponders from Canada.
Echostar leased the frequencies for the odd transponders from Canada.

The are happily co-located and operating within regulated interference of each other just as the several DBS satellites from both companies manage to share 110 and 119.

When DirecTV's lease is up, could Dish pick up the other 16 transponders? Would Canada allow all 32 with one U.S. provider?
