I'm a bit of a language geek as are several members of my family. I also occasionally have visitors from out of the country and I remember fondly when my old cable company several years ago offered the International Channel.
Now I have DirecTV. I love it. I just wish I could get the one channel that I've missed for over seven years now.
The International Channel offers movies, news, dramas, comedies, and anime in a variety of languages. Several of the programs have subtitles and it's really quite useful for foreign language enthusiasts.

Even if you don't really care to watch this kind of programming, you can see how it is a valuable channel to offer. With all the vapid (but fun) stuff on TV, it's nice to have as many educational (but fun) options as we can get.
