Wing dish DIY question

I've got a 1000.2 picking 110, 119, and 129. I've got a 500 in the attic that the installer didn't take with him last fall when I upgraded to the 1000.2. Is it possible for me to put the 500 up as a wing dish to pick up 61.5 (HD locals) without having to call Dish back out here? If so what would I need and how would I determine where to point it, etc?

Any guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

As long as the LNB is a DishPro you should be OK. (it has a big "DP" on the LNB

as to where to point, here is what to do

1. on the back there is a skew option..skew it to 90 so the LNB is level
2. check out the sat finder at thelist (at the top). Put in your zip or city/state and it will give the elevation and azimuth
3. Hook the cable from the LNB directly to the receiver so you can lock the signal.
4. Once its locked, hook a cable from the LNB (on the "new" dish) to the input on the D1000.2 and run check switch

Iceberg man - that will work

Iceberg is 100% on - that's exactly what you need to do to get 61.5 - since Green Bay's 4 channels have been added to 61.5 I have couple of these to do every day.

keep your skew at 90 like Iceberg said. Then just make sure your elevation is set for your area. Put the dp dual in the 119 slot on your 500 dish and run a cable from the dual to the input on the 1000.2. Run check switch and bam! 61.5 for you.

Didn't see the part about dp twin - thought you had a dual or dp single. Not sure if the twin will work - if the other posts aren't working then probably not. I have never tried with a twin just a dual. Twins have internal switches so it probably doesn't. If you don't have a dual you can pick one up for really cheap. Or find someone with a superdish that they don't use anymore and take the dual from that.

OK, thanks for the help. I've found a Dishpro Dual LNBF in the Dishstore that I'll order and change out on the 500. Once I get that in I might be back with a question or two on the install.

One thing I'm confused about now is how many cables I'll have running from the 500? Iceberg, were you saying to hook directly in to the receiver just to get the signal locked and then move it to the input on the 1000.2?

I finally got my D500 locked into 61.5 Sunday morning with the help of a local tech.

Ran one line from the DP Dual LNB to the 1000.2 LNB input. One item which was helpful in centering the signal for the D500 was ordering an "I" adapter for the Dual LNB.

The specified elevation for my location is 36 but we had to pull the elevation to just above 40 to really get the 61.5 signal in strong to the green 70's although we had red lock in the 20's so you may have to float the elevation up some to peak.

To aid in the pointing of the D500 I utilized DishPointer.com - Satellite Dish Pointer / Alignment Calculator with Google Maps for the task,it's nice for it's google map based & the tech that came out never knew of it till I showed him the website:D

Here's a THREAD I started a week or so ago pertaining to getting the D500 dialed in to receive 61.5 connected to the 1000.2,there's pics of the D500 with the I adapter and DP dual LNB. Gimme a shout if you run into trouble,I'll try and help.

After thinking it over last night I decided to call Dish and setup an intallation rather than do it myself. Didn't make sense to spend $30 or $40 on a new LNB plus have to buy cable since they were offering to do it for free and waive the 24 month commitment. Not to mention my amateur workmanship which probably would have messed up my existing dish in the process :D. Thanks for the advice and offers for help from everybody.

Where is Vip211 EHD support?
