Hey Wilt, I know you're out there somewhere. Don't let them screw your box owners. We are owed a partial refund. The CSRs don't have a clue what to tell us if we own the box, and we're left hanging more than anyone here in your customer base. Please, please get someone to step up and let us know what's going to happen. Don't let it turn ugly (and legal).

The corpse isn't even cold and already threats of lawsuits?

Do you guys really have the resources to retain a lawyer over <$1k worth of
hardware? His fees alone will surpass that!

What kind of dopey inane nonsense is this? You aren't owed a refund - be serious!

The case involved a company called VideoGuide. From a previous thread:"I remember a company called VideoGuide, sold a box in 1994 that read program guide data and news over the Pager network, kind of cool. When they shut down 2 years into their sales, they were required to buy the boxes back at full list because the box was only good for their services, so they had, in essence, sold a doorstop as a valid electrical device."

This is true. It was sold at Radio Shacks.

They had you send the box back, postage collect, receipt required, and they sent you a full refund for the equipment.

It is TRUE. It is REQUIRED for a piece of hardware like this

RE: [VOOM] Wilt... don't screw your box owners. Please.

Perhaps not the case if they leave the OTA reception enabled.

I responded to you on Satguys. How about instead of calling it dopey you understand the facts involved? We ARE owed a partial refund. If my box locks up in the remaining year of my warranty, OTA enabled or not, who do I call? We were sold these boxes with certain guarantees. They will either honor them, issue a partial refund, or I will take action. I don't expect the full cost back, and am happy to discuss pro-rating the refund based on my length of service.

As for the lawyer cost, small claims court is pretty cheap ;)

GOOD LUCK to all the box owners, but i think somewhere in the paper work you signed when you purchased the box, that there will be no refund if the service fails. on a new venture i would think that they put in a clause to cover there ass! just my 2 cents! i hope you get something tho !

Re: [VOOM] Wilt... don't screw your box owners. Please.

It should be a class-action suit. The class will depend on how many customers paid out the $800 or so, like I did.
Can we use the dish and LNB for another service, like Free Satellite with the required STB?

Get real people

Wilt is never going to be heard from again.
Voom isn't going to tell its customers anything more than what they
have already posted at their web site.
Refunds of any kind won't occur.
Whatever hardware you have today you'll have come May 1st.
It's time to move on!

The dish and lnb will work for Directv programming, depending on what area and programming you desire.

RE: [VOOM] Wilt... don't screw your box owners. Please.

A class action is an even bigger waste of time. Unless you find a rookie
straight out of law school, it's unlikely you'll find anyone to "sign up"
for the job. As a class, you'll find the member count to be quite small and
the total dollar figure in debate not worth the time it takes to wind
through Federal Court(quite costly).

I don't like losing money any more than the next guy, but let's be realistic
folks. The courts are already full of frivolous lawsuits and this one as a
class action borders on same.

As another post suggests, do read your contract as I'm sure there are
clauses you agreed to which means you won't have a leg to stand on.
