I thought about pre-ordering from BB or Gamestop, for same day pickup. Not sure if Amazon will deliver on release day. No big deal for me as it'll be an Xmas gift for my son. If there's any kinks to be worked out during setup, Live account transfer, etc., should be worked out by 12/25.

Advice stick with the 360. As xbox has stated that the media part of xbox one will be available early next year as a separate media box. They will also sell it to cable and sat companies, so we may see dish offer a receiver with xbox media build in.
The problem with xbox one game system is that on day one folks may not be able to play the games on their system. think the recent fiasco with Madden if memory serve me right it could be some other sport game were the server was hacked and the game could not be activated. Also your 360 games will not play on xbox one. Then their is the question of hidden fees that M$ may charge.

Just watched a gameplay video of Dead Rising 3 on IGN. It looks great and so far that is the biggest thing I am jealous about by going with the PS4. It is made by Capcom who isn't a Microsoft owned company, however Microsoft is publishing it. This is similar to what they did with Mass Effect for bioware. That game did eventually come to PS3, albeit 5 years later so I'm holding out hope that this is just a timed exclusive.

Reminds me of the Microsoft executive that went on his "just deal with it" twitter rant and then resigned. I think Microsoft really needs to just be quiet about this stuff. The market they are going after with kinect and all the TV stuff isn't really the hardcore gamer who spends a ton of time reading gaming news. There is a good chance that a lot of their market will never hear about or understand these restrictions before they go out and buy one. Every time they make media gaffs like this trying to defend themselves they just keep putting their policies back in the news.

I really don't see what the issue is, everyone I know with an Xbox has it hooked up to broadband 24/7 anyways.
I don't see it as a big deal.
My only issue with it is it think they need to move Christmas to November as there is no way I can keep this thing from the kids until Christmas. They will be playing on release day. The question now is what to get them for Christmas.

I have that exact same problem Scott, I was hoping for a late October release date, as my son's birthday is on the 28th. but no, it has to fall in the middle there. I preordered one, mainly for me, and am still trying to decide if I should get him one or just give him my nearer 360 to replace his gen 1 xbox that is still going strong.
They have already told us all their restrictions. Unless they are going to change their mind, why keep talking about it? All it does is keep the negative headlines on all the gaming websites. To be honest the internet requirement doesn't bother me. My 360, PS3, and PC are always online now just like my PS4 will be in the future.
As for your Google comparison, the fact that you can play offline for 23 hours means the internet isn't isn't necessary for games to run unlike google which is a web service. Most of the gaming market is obviously pretty mad about these restrictions so quotes like the one in that video are just going to make them even madder. It's just rubbing salt in the wound of Xbox fans.
My main reason for picking PS4 over Xbox One is Sony's gamer first mentality. I don't need an Xbox to control my Hopper. They are making it $100 cheaper and not forcing motion controls down my throat. They also have more exclusive titles. I will miss Halo and Gears but if there are enough exclusives I will own an Xbox One eventually to go back and play them anyways. I have a Vita so being able to play all my PS4 games mirrored to that device while someone else watches something on the TV is also cool. The fact that there are less restrictions and I can continue to use my Gamefly subscription is just the cherry on top.

Sorry. Gaming is my biggest hobby and I like to be informed on the entire industry. I own the 360, PS3, Wii, Vita, and Gaming PC and countless games for each of them. I have probably been the most active poster in the PS4 and Xbox One threads and if I have voiced my concerns and opinions to often I apologize for that. This is just a topic I am very excited about, even more so when it comes to a new console generation.
I don't think anything I have said is unfair to the Xbox One and what they have announced so far. I'm not a Microsoft hater. In the favorite console of all time thread I even picked the Xbox 360. In fact, I have said I will probably own an Xbox One eventually after they have time to build up an exclusive library and offer a price drop. Yes, I will own a PS4 first but the reason I am spending so much time in the Xbox One threads is because I want to own one of those eventually too.
I didn't realize I was annoying this community with my posts and I will try to channel more of my gaming discussion towards other websites that focus more on that topic in the future.
That interview was from before the conference btw, and there's still a lot to learn about their restrictions (and, what people enjoy neglecting, the benefits). Participating retailers for used games, options for publishers (some talk of them being able to opt out of some stuff), the family sharing (is it 10 arbitrary people you can just share your library with?), etc.

I'll do my best to keep it under wraps until 12/25. Will depend on if any of his friends are playing on launch day. I suspect their parents will also try to hold on until Xmas. We'll see!
As far as replacing my console, I'll wait. From what I've read, my favorite game ( EA's NHL14 ) won't be available on the Next Gen consoles.
My Xbox 360 is connected to internet 24/7 at home. I never took it with me to anywhere. I own all my games and I don't rent games. I won't be getting an Xbox One. I am just going to keep my Xbox 360 until it ran its course. The way that Microsoft came out like it is "my way or the highway" just rubbed me the wrong way.
I think they are both good but overall the X-Box has always offered a better package they have the games plus all the entertainment as well I can see them adding more Tv Networks so forth. So to me you just get more for your dollar with the X-box.
Xbox is my first preference, but Sony converted all of my friends so that's what I'm getting first. We'll own a One even if it's just for the media and kinect capabilities, if I had to guess that'll be sometime next year.
Thats the same with me. I think the 360 is the finest game machine currently available. They threw all that away with the Xbox One. Every new "feature" is actually a new restriction, and the kinect spying thing is just plain creepy.
