will voom OTA work ??

I have temped up an antenna to see if I could receive any signal with my old voom box. The receiver will go to the scan for OTA, finds 4 channels but I can't get any video. When I go out of the menus it puts up call voom for authorization. Do you have to be able to access the guide to get the channels to come up or ?? What am I missing? I thought if it would scan for channels the receiver would work. Any help appreciated.

When a voom receiver says that its currently only good for parts its been deactivated by voom.
