Take a look at the image above. It’s the Gemini Voice Remote, available now at Solid Signal. It’s the remote you can get to add a second (or third, or fourth) remote to your Gemini and you’ll find it at the best price when you shop with us. But, this remote has generated a surprising amount of controversy, and so I thought I’d take a second to explain what’s going on with it.
This remote will work perfectly with your Gemini, regardless of when you bought it. It will also work with boxes which you might call:
Why? Because they’re all the same. If your box looks like this:
then the remote is going to work for it. If it has an AT&T logo, the remote is going to work for it. If you had it from a beta test, this remote is going to work for it. In short, this remote is going to work for it.
Yes, it will work for Gemini Air too.
The remote in the picture is DIRECTV’s model RC82V. You will also see the RC83V out there, especially with the Gemini Air. Currently, as I write this, Solid Signal is working through its stock of RC82V remotes and when our distributor is done with that supply, we’ll start getting RC83V remotes.
This is a photo I just took of the actual remotes I have on the test bench. The big difference is that the RC83V has a white circle around the APPS button. There’s also a darker “chin” at the bottom of the RC82V. I wasn’t able to capture it in a photo but the RC82V has a smooth back while the RC83V has a slight texture on the back.
Both remotes work perfectly with every Gemini I have on the bench, and that includes the original test device I used to do this review.
Getting a Gemini Voice Remote from Solid Signal is a great idea. You can have multiple remotes on the same Gemini — even if you have the Gemini Air. You will find that the remote looks and feels the same as the one that came with your original device.

What about Gemini Air?

Bottom line, the model number does not matter.
