I am a previous subscriber to Dish Network. Will I be able to receive 123W on that dish? It's about 24" x 31" oval. I'm hoping I can leave the dish aimed where it's at (pointing toward 119W), buy a linear LNB and FTA receiver and be good to go. Will this work? Thanks.

the dish is marginal size - 31" may see some interference from Echostar 9 at 121 deg W or the strong AMC-21 at 125 deg W.

you can buy a LNBF, a FTA receiver and you'll have to probably homebrew a bracket for the LNBF and you'll have to repoint the dish to 123 deg W.

If it's only 24" high, I don't think it will work. You need at least a 76cm. A 90 cm is better because of the 2 degree spacing.

yep, I forgot about the 24 inch dimension. Stuff is cheap enough you could try it, I guess, but I have to concur results may not be good.

120cm is great for 2 deg spacing - my 90cm was so-so, my 120cm is solid for separating 2-deg spaced sats like G18 and AMC-21.

Generally speaking, a Superdish (this is what I think the OP has) will work marginally for FTA. There is a Ku stacked LNB, so no need to replace that.

123w, however, may not be the best target for that undersized dish. There is potential interference from 125w next door that could cause trouble. As stated above, a 90CM dish is recommended on that satellite.

I'm with Tron. - :up

Few additional comments:
- you'll have to slightly re-aim your dish, but since you're a former subscriber that should not be a problem.
- no purchase required of an LNB if you do have a SuperDish. But, let's get that clarified.
- I believe it's the 31" wide that'll bite you in the butt, not the 24" height.
- You should get -some- transponders on 123°, but probably not all (just a guess)
- do you need brand suggestions on a receiver? Blind scan is highly desirable. Don't get a hacker-box.

edit: oh, you're in the north east? that'll make the 123° & 125° satellites appear even closer together to you.
Really not the best situation. However, tell us more about your dish, and give a try. :)

Thanks for all the input

The dish is a 500 plus. Not sure if that is considered a superdish. My main concern was the size of the dish and it sounds to me that I'd be better off geting a bigger dish. I just assumed, that since my dish was picking up 3 different satellites, 110,118,119,(and an option to receive 129) I'd have a shot at picking up 123. I should probably do it the right way and get the correct equpment.
Although I am very new at this ,I always like rigging things and trying to do with what I have. Thanks again for your suggestions.

A Dish 500 plus is not the same as a Superdish, and has no Ku FSS LNB. I would not attempt to use that dish on 123w... It is undersized to begin with, and after the necessary modification for a linear LNB, its not worth playing with.
