Well folks, the fact is that there are between 15-25 million of us out here and we aren't going anywhere! We shop where you shop, we eat where you eat, we're bankers, lawyers, judges, teachers, senators, grocery clerks, stay at home moms/dads, butchers, bakers, and probably some candlestick makers. We pay the same taxes (and actually more since there are over 1000 rights and privileges that "straight" people can have that we can't) as each and every one of you, and guess what we actually watch tv just like you.
Here we are talking about a channel that is going to be a basic cable channel that will have less sex and nudity than you basic tv soap opera, less violence than a WWE monday night Raw, and apparently offensive shows like reruns of Golden Girls and Will and Grace. Now don't get me wrong, they will also tackle issues like Marriage for EVERYONE, same sex parenting, and other issues that would appeal to the GLBT community more than your everyday straight person, but If you are hoping to find some girl on girl action, you are just going to have to turn over to Cinemax or HBO for that, because it won't be here.
For those of you who are worried about your "Families", take a look at what is being watched every week. How many of you have one or more of the movies channels? How about Spike TV? MTV? The evening news? Days of our Lives, General Hospital, or any of the other dozen or so soaps that are on every day. Each and every one of those channels will have more sex, blood, dysfunctional families, and just about everything else under the sun, but for some reason, this is all okay for your family?
We aren't asking you to accept what we do in the privacy of our bedrooms any more than you are asking us to accept what you do in yours. But we deserve the respect of who we are the same as you deserve the respect of who you are. Human Beings just trying to make our little corner of the world just a bit better. Being gay is so much more than what goes on in the bedroom, just as it is being straight is so much more than what goes on in your bedroom.
One last thing for you to think about. If Dish were to add Logo, then a lot of those people who are gay in middle america (and guess what they are there too!) and elsewhere may just sign up for dish because their cable company won't carry it. The more people that sign up and are subscribers with Dish Network, the more money Dish makes which then gives them more capital to negotiate more channels for EVERYONE!!!!! The more money they will have to send up more satellites, the more money they will have to add HD programming. The more money they will have to give more people black, white, straight, gay or whatever more of what we all want, more choices, more channels, and less expensive than what people pay for cable!
We aren't asking you to watch Logo, but we are asking for the chance for us to get to watch it.
Thanks for listening (or reading I guess).
