Why did I bother? With what you ask. Why did I bother taking my time and spending my money to make sure I have everything running through surge protectors/suppressors, making sure everything was grounded and totally protected. Woke up this morning to find out not 1 but BOTH of my HD boxes were dead, thats right D-E-A-D as a doornail. Why are they dead you ask. Beats the heck out of me. At least the tv's are ok and low and behold the crappy D10 is still alive and kicking. After spending 2 hours swapping boxes and cables I finally call Direct and after talking to 3 people I get piece of mind that they will swap out my boxes until I get to techy #4 who says "well we will have to do a service call and make sure they are dead before we can swap these out so you might have boxes by the end of next week", thanks for your help after I have already touble shot everything for you  By the way the boxes were an H10 and an HD-SAT520 I just got last week. And if you smirk or smile after reading this I am glad it brightened your day,it helped me to vent, and if you have been through this crap like me then you feel my pain and I am sorry for you.

End rant-----

I had a bad SAT320 that I called about a problem with it. I kept on calling and they said it wasn't defective. Once it got bad enough that they said it needed replacement under their Protection Plan they told it my protection plan didn't cover a pre-existing condition and I nicely told the lady that this wasn't pre-existing but an existing condition because your techs were to braindead to figure it out that it should have been replaced three months ago. She didn't cave in so I said I'd call the State of Florida insurance fraud devision and see what they have to say and next thing I know she says if I would hold until a supervisor got on the line with her in a three way call. I said yes and two minutes later a superviser got on the phone and told me what I needed todo to return my old box when I get my replacement. They sent overnight a new SAT520 box and told me to pack my old box into the replacement box and use the prepaid shipping label to send it back.

Oh and I also told her after the call that she was lucky I didn't ask her to get my brother on the line and I told her his name and she let out a gasp so she must know him and my brother is the type of person who would fire a person who gave a customer the grief I was given.

Also just so you know the Protection Plan in Florida is treated as an insurance policy so if D* fails to honor their warranty a customer can submit an insurance fraud claim against them and lets just say a company like D* doesn't want an outstanding fraud claim on the books. Why do you think Apple doesn't offer AppleCare to consumers in Florida. They need to buy insurance along with posting a bond to cover the cost off an entire replacement computer for each customer that buys their Protection Plan. That money has to be put aside in a bond before you can sell it and the state keeps track of those books if they get many complaints.

Hahahaha it just gets better and better, the saga will never end...hooked up my old boxes did the 1st one no problem old card re-activated fine, dug out my other hughes box and called, "no I am sorry sir we can't activate that card but we can send you a new card then activate it", no thanks...so lets see the 6th tech person I taled to couldnt remove my dead HD boxes for some reason, so after I talk to the 7th tech he is able to remove the dead boxes but not able to re-activate the old card but in doing so he also removes all my programming so the boxes that do work dont get anything, well after call #8 I have finally gotten things straight for now...I am going to bed now :(

Thats one of the good things about Florida "Consumer Protection Plan" but we pay for it with the 13% Cable/Satellite tax.

All the more reason for them to cover my box. I pay for it twice in both the 7.99/month fee and with my 13% taxes. In no way should I not be covered.

Good old Florida!
