Why no screen saver?

Those screensavers during the pause (a la DirecTV and U-verse) always irritated me, personally. I have two TVs and two computer monitors beside each other and I like to pause TV without a distracting logo bouncing around.

One thing I miss about Directv. Oppo has it, Directv has it, not a hard thing but Dish is def behind the times with that one...

People worry about it with plasma and they need to prepare for OLED; screensaver would be nice. I'd much rather it kick in after 5 or 10 mins vs power cycling the display.

It does have IR issues, not sure on it being permanent. IR by itself is annoying if bad enough. I know even the AMOLED phones have IR, my Droid Razr Maxx is pretty bad.

That's one of the reasons I've stuck with LCD where possible as much as I can. No burn in or image retention, and reasonable response times.

I beg to differ. The more recent LCDs I have are very close to my plasmas. Plus with plasma, good luck using it any room without complete darkness.

Not really, unless you spend a lot of bank, and now that edge lit is prevalent, no thanks. No LCD's in the price ranges come close to Panasonic plasma performance and contrast ratio. And this thing about bright rooms is BS too. Have you see all the glossy LCD's now?

The top three tv's ever created are two plasmas and an LCD, the LCD which cost around $6000 :)

Ansi contrast ratio is one of the most important parts of an image, then there is color. LCD's can do well in on off CR, but not so much in Ansi. Just read the reviews.

I only get the more pricey LCDs. The only thing the plasmas have is slightly better contrast ratio. I also never buy the glossy LCDs.

Btw I wasn't trying to start a plasma vs LCD war. I have both for different reasons. I do spend more time in front of the LCDs though.

Slightly! LOL

Pioneer Elite 111FD 13,833 ansi
2012 Panasonic Plasma VT50 10,219 ansi
2011 Sharp Elite LCD 6,309 ansi
2012 Samsung Plasma E8000 2,919 ansi
2012 Samsung ES8000 LCD 1,834 ansi
2012 LG Plasma 9700 1,426 ansi
2012 Panasonic WT50 LCD 783 ansi

Yepp, they are close. While color and calibration control are quite good on LCD's, view angles and blacks generally arent that good, compared to todays standards. Sure, they are better, but not great.

To each their own, but lets not forget facts. Plasmas are fine in bright rooms unless oyu have a window behind you, and blacks, well... Im a 5 time plasma owner and 3 time LCD owner. I can't bring myself to own anything but plasma.

Anyone can throw numbers around and say "See! Look! huge difference!"

I am very picky about PQ and my eyes tell me a different story. Of course for the movies and the likes I will be on the plasmas, but for everyday use without the worry of burn-in plus all different lighting situations plus smaller size (e.g. Computer use, TV on the side, TV in front of me, monitor on the other side, another monitor by that) the LCDs are superior.

LOL, whatever.

I have calibrated displays, I own my own meter and signal generator, I "throw" nothing out there. The silly stuff here is you saying that there is only a slight difference in contrast ratio, then when I supply you with facts, your best answer is nothing of substance. The fact is the ansi contrast ratio and minimum luminance level of any upper tier panasonic plasma today cannot be met by even the best LCD's. Sure, an LCD can turn off, but thats why we use ansi, not on/off CR.

I've owned plasmas ranging from 0.018, 0.014, 0.007, 0.004 and 0.0018 foot lamberts, all can be told apart in a light controlled room easily, and this even shows up in lit rooms as well. Sure, plasmas look only "slighty" better on the floor of best buy when the flood lights are on.

Facts tell me maybe your eyes aint so great! Since this aint going anywhere, might as well move on.

I dont have a problem with LCD, but I do have a problem with people thinking they perform well in areas they really dont. Granted they are better than plasmas at certain things, but in overall PQ they arent. Just read the reviews.

Or maybe I'm not such a damn nerd about it? So I should throw out my four LCDs and replace them with plasmas since there's SUCH a huge difference? Oh that right the ambient room light would destroy it anyway. I've said this going on three times now, I have both, and it's not as dramatic as the numbers make it seem. Just depends on the situation. Telling me I have bad eyes certainly isn't proving your "point." PS I just went to the eye doc last week, he says my vision is great (with correction.)

This sounded soooo much like digital vs. analog front projectors, then it sounded sooooo much like DLP vs.LCD vs. LCoS front projectors.

My back says LCDs are better because you don't have the extra layer of glass to contain the plasma. My power bill says edge lit LCDs are better because the meter on the outside of the house spins slower. :D

I get the PQ stuff, but 99% of the viewers don't give a (insert any of several expletives higher) about PQ. The few that care about ultimate PQ will have a dark room with something along the lines of a JVC D'ILA front projector which (btw) smokes plasmas ;)
