Why no native res. output on the 811?

When I switch my box to 480P everything looks terrible.. Has like little blocks in the picture. in HD and SD. Is there something wrong with my 811? or is this normal??

Yukon, to be honest it could be either the box or just the way your set is handling the incoming signal. Have you tried using the s-video for watching SD programms? It may make a difference. Obviously component/dvi will be needed for the HD.

You just may be one of those with a particular type of set that does a better job a displaying a standard def. program via s-video rather than over component. On my set however, the stretched s-video pic looks worse than the stretched component pic.

As I stated in one of the above post. The 811 needs a way to pass native resolutions as well as the HD. We all know that HD from the 811 is remarkable, but the standard def is crap if your stretching the pic in order to avoid premature burn-in on a rptv.

Most of us would like to use just 1 input for HD & SD. & not have to switch back and forth between inputs on our sets. Not to mention having to manually go into the menu 6-1-9 in order to switch the reslution output of the 811.

Thjus, the 811 needs to be able to pass native resolutions, or at least make it selectable via a toggle on the remote.

Just got an email response to my email I sent E* regarding the native resolution, and toggle via remote. Here's what The Tech said, make any sense?

Dear Mr. XXX,

Thank you for your email correspondence.

I believe what you are saying, is why does the 811 receiver automatically
upconvert standartd TV to low quality high definition?
At this time, we are note technologically advanced enough to get all
programming in true high definition.
If the event is produced, filmed, delivered, sent, and received in high
definition, then it is true HD. If not, it is simply upconverted.
The 480i image is so close to SD, that really it is useless.

Hi, just a quick question regarding output resolution on the 811. Are
there any future plans for adding resolution switching capabilty via the
hd/sd button on the remote or, at least having the 811 output native
content resolution? And why isn't 480i included in the output resolution
options?

Nope... I don't think LeRoy understood the issue and the request.

Are these guys that clueless? Come on E*.

Jimmy,

It is not that they are clueless in this case, It is just that LeRoy is most likely not intimate with the subtle nuances of the 811. I am pretty sure that the 811 team is aware of this feature request.

I put this enhancement request in a while back. Time will tell if they feel it is worth the time to add and devote resource to it.
