Why KTFA LP is back on the air?

If T-mobile management had to wear clothing made out of their coverage maps, they would be arrested in many localities for indecent exposure.

No doubt. They haven't actually added many (if any) physical towers to their network. They're relying on their "extended range LTE" bands to give the appearance of additional coverage. Where I have actually witnessed additional Verizon towers being built within the past year to cover the last few remaining gaps, TMO has done nothing. It's a budget gimmick network that really only benefits those in and around major metropolitan areas.

Oh come now. T-Mobile has made great strides in the last year. They have installed over a thousand antennas for band 71, well ahead of schedule. And most new phones support that band. Many stations moved to new frequencies earlier than expected.

Very few actual new towers are put up today. And certainly not by AT&T or Verizon. They lease space on towers owned by companies that make towers their primary business.

The T-Mobile expansion is real, and will continue with or without the Sprint acquisition.

T-Mobile coverage is not as extensive as the big two, but for most people it is more than good enough. I tested coverage every place I normally go, with a burner phone before moving over. I have coverage everywhere I go, for less than half what I paid the Death Star.

On our recent trip from NOVA to MN, there were very few spots with no coverage.

Yes, I should have been more specific. Verizon leased space on several American Tower owned sites within the past year that covered a few gaps south of me.

I think Verizon has the best coverage. And you pay for it.

I just couldn’t turn down that 55+ plan for $60 for two lines, unlimited everything in the US, Canada and Mexico.

And there’s coverage in a rural part of WV where we have an RV. In fact, I’m posting from there now. Coverage is good enough that I just watched videos of the Space-X launch and landing.

I agree; Verizon is more expensive. However, I am clutching to my legacy Unlimited plan with both hands. It's $100 plus $20 per line. So for 4 lines, I'm at $180. I don't need an ISP because I make my unlimited cellular data work as my home network. Plus there is no other carrier with coverage in my rural location.

I just tested it by watching a few minutes on Dish Anywhere. Worked just fine, at least as well as at my workplace in Alexandria VA.

yes I would----which explains my comment in my earlier post. Oncve again while analog TV is still out there I have no idea why anyone would want to start it up now at that frequency.

In order to establish oneself as a squatter, you have to squat in the first place. As long as you don't get fined and prohibited from broadcasting in the future, what's to lose?

If claims and incomplete implementations meant anything you might have a point, but if they don't turn up the service that their claiming to be working feverishly on, it doesn't matter one damn bit.

Further, if the services you want only manage to show up in East Jesus or Puerto Rico, does it really count?

There are some confusion on KTFA-LP's license status, I thought their analog was expired and the so called digital CP was denied by the FCC. So what's the real story here?. Has anyone seen Trip lately?

The FCC's ULS database doen't list a KTFA. There's no entry for it under Entravision Holdings, LLC, the organization who held the license. Unfortunately, the search engine searches by corporate mailing address rather than tower location so finding stations that are part of big companies appears to be problematic.

Yep, that's Entravision alright and the company also owns KLUZ-DT and KTFQ-DT.

KTFA-LP, has a long history going back in the 80's in the old 20th century used to carry SIN "Spanish International Network now called Univision" and rencently Home Shopping Network Which is now on KTFQ-DT rf ch. 42.3 or remapped ch. 41.3.

Did they fell asleep on the FCC paperwork?

It will last until someone unplugs it. It would appear that KTFA is running wild so it may come down to someone complaining to the FCC.

Some time in 2015, there was yet another sunset announced for conventional NTSC broadcasts of 12 months after the completion of the repack (51 weeks after the end of the reverse auction). I believe that stacks up to July 3, 2021.

Low Power Television (LPTV) Service

Given the extended history (originally slated to happen in 2012, then 2015 -- though Congress wanted it in 2009), its anybody's guess when the axe will actually fall.

Well it won't be this week; I saw in the news that the FCC is shutting down tomorrow if the gov't standoff doesn't end today. Looks like Trip might get a day off tomorrow

The shutdown would not be across-the-board.

For example, anything related to the spectrum auctions is funded by the auction proceeds, not Congress. There would also be certain services that are considered imperative to health and safety that will remain operational in a "partial shutdown".
