Why isn't BBC World in AT250?

I sent an e mail out to Dish to find out if BBC World could be added to AT250. I like the channel and I got the card, plugged it into the 211k and subbed to the news pack for $10 a month, just to get BBC World and the channel is not even in HD. Dish claims the channel is not in AT250 because of a contract issue. Why would that be? The way it is being sold, very few people can view it. I believe the company that controls BBC World in the is Scripps(?) The company that has Discovery. I may be wrong on that, but since Dish has the other Scripps channels and they are available in AT250, why isn't BBC World? Both Direct TV as well as Charter Cable has the channel in their upper tiers in HD. Getting BBC World is not available Ale Carte either as an add on. I have checked it getting it even on a stream. The least expensive way I can do that is to sub through a different company for $18 a month. Even Charter has CNN International which we don't. But I can get the CNN app with my sub to Dish and CNN International does stream for free as long as I have the Dish sub. Does anyone have any thoughts on why Dish has BBC World set up like this, so few people can watch it? Even Russia Today is easy to get compared to BBC World as well as a zillion other International News Channels. Thanks.

I only get that channel myself for some of the documentaries. I don't like the fake news on that channel.

It appears DISH negotiated getting it for the Flex Pack as part of the news add on. Because it is also available as part of a news add on for the Top 250 I am assuming it could only be sold by DISH as an add on. That tells me DISH feels they want too much to be put into a regular package and/or it isn't watched by that many subscribers but if people will pay for it they can carry it.

I would say cost. Do the others you mention cost as much or even charge to be on - in fact do they actually pay Dish to be on? (IDK) I would watch BBC news from time to time if it were part of the package I have. Flip side however is I don't need it or most any other channel DISH does not presently carry if it is going to add more to my bill.
Much more important I want DISH to carry all the channels it does have in HD.

As someone else here posted, it is all about the Benjamins. Dish doesn't want to pay for the expanded availability of BBC World News and figures most subscribers won't care. If it really matters to you , you may have to switch providers.

I am thinking Dish feels they want too much might be a reason, but then why carry it at all? Does Dish carry any International News pack with BBC World? I could not find one. They used to have one that carried a variety of other news channels including France24.

The European news perspective is good. They have more info on Europe than most other services. But getting BBC World is not an easy feat without a package anywhere. I can find many other streaming English news channels for free or they are carried on Dish. But the BBC must really control their channel. There is also the Russia Today Documentary Channel (not on Dish), but they stream. Also good, but without the Pro Russia slant.

If you have SlingTV, with the News Pack you get BBC World News in HD!
I have Dish Anywhere on the Roku, but there is no live stream available for BBC World. Some channels have a live stream, but that one doesn't. Sling does not interest me as with most services, you cannot get something like "AT250". There are too many channels not available. So, I will keep things as there are. At least for the time being.

I checked the $5 package of International News channels, but not a lot there, and no BBC World.

If it's the one I had at one time that is only available with an international package - on the 118 Satellite. At the time I had it I watched it especially EuroNews.

I have a spare 30" Dish I could install for the International package, but everything they have is free somewhere streaming now, but no BBC World. So I guess keeping it on Dish is my best shot.

Do you mean FireTV? Dish Anywhere is not on the Roku.

The likely reason it is not in an add on(mainly meant for Flex Pack) is because the competitors do not offer a service to have the add ons, such as the Flex Pack...

I will say this about Scripps. Before they got bought out by Discovery, they did a good job of getting their channels included in the base Flex Pack, with no add-ons required. So, if they had been controlling the distribution of BBC World News, it would probably also be included in Flex Pack instead of being in the News Pack. By the way, I thought that AMC Networks was responsible for the US distribution of BBC World News, but it has been awhile since I checked.

I wasn't sure, maybe it is AMC. But still AMC is in the basic packs, so BBC World should be. Direct has it even in HD in their packs.
