Exactly what I observe with my H3 for years already. I think it was a software upgrade that caused this, but I wasn't paying close atttention to the version number so I'm not sure. Drives me crazy and I wish Dish hadn't sabotaged my 722 because it was much easier to use. Tiles... Bah!I currently have similar issues watching recorded material that was recorded from Dish not OTA. The skip button works ok if you only press it once or twice (or if you press it slowly multiple times, allowing a short pause between presses), but if you press it too many times, or too quickly it may skip to the end of the show or completely freak out and go to black screen. It happens more with paused live recordings, they will inevitably jump to live TV and it is very difficult to get back to where I was in the show when it was paused. I never had any of these issues with skip forward or skip backwards on my old 722.
I eschew SD.Since you mentioned Andy Griffith, I'm wondering if the problem is related to recordings in SD 4:3 format as opposed to HD, whether they are OTA or not.
I've never noticed an issue like that on my Twilight Zone recordings but I'll have to go enter another dimension and check it.
It looks pretty terrible on today's larger screens. I'm always amazed at the more-than-occasional commercial that is in 4:3 SD that is still being aired. It's almost like, "we don't really care, we're grandfathered into our advertising agreement and we're not gonna spend anything to update that commercial from its 1990 roots, because we're all about heritage." Or something. On the other hand, I've recorded Seinfeld off of TBS onto the Hopper and those early 90s episodes hold their own, so to speak. Either they were shot on film or they have done a good job of somehow upconverting them because they look pretty good.I eschew SD.
I didn’t bother checking with Dish’s web site. I felt few dollar difference wouldn’t mean much. Also, Alti……… may have a point with 4:3 format not skipping correctly. First 5 seasons of The Andy Griffith show were not a problem at all with skipping commercials. Then, I started having issues ( skipping too far) with 6th and 7th seasons. Maybe Don Knotts who played Barney Fife and left after season 5 has something to do from up above!! What a great actor he was.
Agree. I read that there was a miscommunication between Andy and Don. Don felt the show was about to end and he made a verbal commitment for some other shows. He didn't want to break his word. You can easily see how much Andy Griffith is struggling without Don. Color and no Barney changed the whole experience. I am astonished that it still lasted 3 more years.I think the post-Barney seasons are just best skipped completely. Show was never the same after he left and it went in color.
