Why doesn't Dish add online streaming?

Interestingly, a few of the channels that Dish offers, such as some of the HBO and Cinemax channels they added back a year or so ago, are streaming-only; you watch them live and record them to your Hopper DVR via an internet connection, not through your rooftop dish. Why not do that with *all* of Dish's channels and give customers the option of receiving service via the internet and not even need a satellite dish and its related wiring? The service could still use the same TV receiver boxes and remotes.

Recording from streaming channels is not possible. I hope they implement it in the future, but currently you can only pause & rewind live TV. You can't record on those channels.

In that case, I guess my "home network" would be regularly changing, so I don't know what purpose it would serve.

Interesting. I suppose, then, that the Hopper is caching the internet stream, to allow for live TV pause and rewind, but Dish isn't allowing the stream to be permanently recorded to the DVR hard drive for whatever reason.

Thanks for the info but if it requires a new TV I don't think I am quite ready to buy a new TV just for streaming.

Does your TV have HDMI inputs? If so you don't need a new TV to stream via the Hopper Plus or any other streaming device (Roku, FireTV, AppleTV).

Having streaming available via my H3 with no input switching and a familiar interface would be great. Obviously it can be done like the current Prime app.

Then the Hopper Plus might be good for your purposes but I'd wait a while for that, it needs a few upgrades. But then the interface is a bit different with that.

If you are looking for a streaming device that works with Dish Anywhere, get the Nvidia TV Shield. You will not regret it. These are the fastest and best streaming device of them all but will cost about $200. There are hundreds of streaming apps that will work with it including KODI.

You can use that out for legitimate and legal streams. It’s just an outdated way of doing things. Frankly, I don’t know why people even still use it

I’ve seen them suckered in at RV shows. Scared the bejeebers out of a sales lady when I said I thought we’d shut you people down. She was selling, shall we say, “pre-loaded” units. “Everything you might want to watch- FOR FREE!” Old folks lining up to hand over their cash.

How would Dish determine a subscriber's "home network"? I use three different Internet providers with frequently changing IP addresses and physical locations, for instance.
