Here is an interesting mini project (Done at your own risk and defiantly voiding your warranty)

In a quest to get as much signal out of my 6' mesh dish I cut out the center of my LNB cover and replaced it with clear plastic and siliconed it inside and out. I had noticed that top of the line LNB manufacturer (And GOLD sponsor here) Invacom uses tinted clear plastic on their LNBF's. But I figure since my dish is painted flat/matt black I can get away with clear plastic.

I am noticing a signal gain of about 5% signal quality across the board!

Every little helps :D

thats funny that you mentioned that as about a month ago I was looking at one of my spare LNBF and wondering if there would be any difference in replacing the manufactures cover with a piece of Plexiglass siloconed in place. This was for a KU lnbf and I never tried it yet.

I would beware if its a metallic or shinny dish as if the sun reflects into the LNB it may fry it!
