Which Satellite Does Directv use?

I have been a Dtv client for more than 20 years. Part of the reason for my long term commitment is that my family enjoys camping and I could easily carry one of our receivers to the camper and we could enjoy all of our programs while we are at the lake. A few years ago a Dtv rep told me I no longer had that option and kind of forced me out of the set up. I was recently talking to a different rep that sent me another receiver to try again. He said that he saw no reason that it would not work. Here's my delema. The dish I used back then is out of alignment and I now can't find a satellite. Does anyone know which satellite to use in NE Alabama? I have a satellite finder but I have no idea which satellite to look for! Thanks for the help.

If its Standard Def, it's the 101 satellite

If it's HD its the 101,103 and 99 satellites.

Going by the city listed in your profile, the 101 satellite is as follows:

Elevation: 46.4

Azimuth: 207.4

What kind of receiver do you have?

Could be you upgraded receivers and it's no longer comparable to the Dish.

The camping setup is still possible today, you just need the right equipment.

I wonder if they'll move the DNS network and 'popular' HD channels to 101? That way they'd be able to provide some HD channels to all the folks with mobile antennas.

For these RV set ups that get the 101 only, the Sat doesn't care if it's SD or HD, right ?
So the HD channels if they moved them, would come in ?

Don't see why they wouldn't come in.

You would still need an HD receiver because the channels would presumably be MPEG-4

In my case, I am using an HR24 in the Coach.

Thanks everyone! I was able to get it with the Elevation and Azimuth and a few tweeks to my system. I love having the system at my camper and hope they don't change stuff so we can't carry our programming with us when we travel.

I think this is a definite possibility. They still market tailgating, boating, RV'ing, etc. using 101 only. It is also stronger for rain-fade.
Most of the receiving equipment should work fine if they change to HD on 101, generally the user would just need a new receiver.

I'd love to see the CORE most watched HD channels to be broadcast from 101. I have a boat and I have a In-Motion Intellian Dish that is setup to receive either 119 (for my SD locals) or 101 for the rest of DirecTV's Core programing packages. The Dish can only receive KU-Band but can work with either 8PSK or QPSK modulation as well as MPEG2 or MPEG4.

I have a Genie system now, but I also have a H24 & H25 as well.

The H24 is nice as I can use a regular SL3 LNB and not have to worry about the Power Inserter.

I'm still using an old Phase 3 with SL3 LNB, I've been meaning to get a DishNet dish to use for camping......
