Which RAID box/moving HDD from one RAID to another

I'm sorry that you are having problems with the RAID. If possible, I would return the enclosure and drives and go with the my book solution.

Drives are fine, I won't be returning them. They're "Blacks" which I believe are the next best thing to REs. I'm looking for max reliability.

Besides, I had a MyBook, and it's electronics failed on me early on.

I looked around... This was mentioned in a customer review on newegg as a better manual / firmware.

Silicon Image Products - SiI5744 Storage Processor

Thanks. I'll look into it. But that link is to a chip, not the enclosure. Now to call to return the old.

I spent most of yesterday and this morning trying to find a good raid / usb enclosure. They seem to all fall into 2 categories. The "bad directions / hard to use" group and the "cost a lot because it is also a NAS device" group.

I did find a model by 'thecules' that seemed to get good independent reviews, but it only supports 2.5" drives, not the 3.5" that you have now.

There are several NAS devices that seem good, but cost close to $300.

The 'my book' still looks like the best solution, but I know you mentioned that you didn't favor the WD.

If you want any links to anything, let me know.

And again, I'm sorry that you've had so many issues with this.

I'm concerned the company has not called me back. I'd hate to get stiffed, but I can certainly report via Amazon if that happens. Hopefully I'll be posting bad product but good company support.

UPDATE

They sent me an email with an RMA and it's going back to them today. However, they talked about "repair" and I said I wanted a refund. I doubt they could repair this anyway.

In any event, until this is resolved, you might want to think twice before buying from Mars Technology or AMERICAN MEDIA SYSTEMS, even thru Amazon.
