Hello, We had a new system (Hopper 3 with 3 portable joeys ) installed last week to replace our older one required by the service tech. I have a simple question that i can't find the answer to on any of Dish's instructions or the channel 103. I want to set timers to WATCH the nightly news at 5:00 PM M-F and the 10:00 PM news 7 days a week along with other channels/shows we may find while looking in the guide. All I can find is how to set timers to RECORD which I do not need to watch live TV. Can you please tell me how to set a timer to view NOT record a channel. It is getting very frustrating to have to watch the clock to change the channel to what we want to watch at a set time. Thanks so much for your help

:welcome to Satelliteguys!

Create the timer for the show you want to watch. Then go to DVR/Timers and edit the timer. Change the 'Type' from DVR to AutoTune and that should do it.

Maybe set a manual timer. While in Timers listings, select Options then Create a Timer.
.

Thanks Guys, How do I create the timer for that channel? Lets say its channel 9 or ESPN 140 how do I create the timer for either channel? Sorry for the stupidity but that goes along with my being a senior. Thanks

Call up the guide. Go to the show you want to watch and press Select then chose to Record Series.

While in the guide press Select button for the program you want for a timer. Then follow the instructions.

Another thing you can do is when you set your timer, you get a pop up that says timer set New Only or New and Reruns in the lower right hand corner. If you’re quick enough, hit select while that pop up is showing and it’ll take you to the edit timers menu

Thanks charlesrshell, I tried to do it the way you recommended but it don't really work that way. I suppose there are different software versions between your equip and mine. I do know the remote they show on Dish 103 is not like mine, I do not have the touchpad in the center I have select and arrows in 4 directions. Thanks for your help, all this is greek to me but I have found a gold mine in this forum. Thanks for allowing me into the group.

You are welcome. What didn't work? The instructions in post #5 and #6 basically the same thing. What is the remote control model # on the back of your remote?

Select the program that you want to auto tune in the guide, click record this. When the red timer appears select it again and select edit timer and then where it says record once select that and then select daily or whenever you want it to auto tune. Select type and then select auto tune.

No, there are not different software versions and all the software on the Hoppers works the same way as far as this goes. The Remote on CH 103 is outdated. If you're new, you have a 54 remote; lights up, voice assisted. Yet, all the remotes work basically the same way.

It's really not hard. Set you program to record.
Hit DVR Button
Hit Timers.
Scroll down to your program.
Select your program, then select Edit.
Change the Record to Tune, or View or however it's listed
Done
