Radio Shack used to sell these simple speaker mounting brackets which worked great. It was a flat piece of metal that you'd screw in the wall with the bottom edge bent up with a couple teeth on it. You would attach the inverse of this to the back of the speaker. It was simple, cheap, effective, and held a very heavy speaker!
Radio Shack doesn't sell them any more. I'd love to find another set somewhere.
I'm sure the standoff arms that everyone sells are better for pure sound that isn't transferring any vibration to the wall and has clear air space all around, but...for home theater and stereo applications, I've never had an issue with the old version.
Most of the cheap stand-off arms I see only support a 2lb satellite speaker and the larger ones get bulky and pricey. That's what I'll probably end up with but figured I'd check here to see if anyone knew where I could buy a simple metal wall bracket.
Sometimes we don't need the pure audiophile solution....sometimes you just want to attach a box to a wall.
Thanks!
