I supposed I can also buy the adapter that Solid Signal sells, which would convert my existing 1.x" pole into a 2" pole at the top. Anyone use one of them?
I went to both Lowes and Home Depot. No 2" pipe. Found some sort of 2" metal conduit, but the 2" is measured INSIDE the edge. Got it home, only to found out the bracket won't fit over it.
Are YOU the seller in the ebay listing?
Once again, why buy the adapter online and wait for it to be sent when you can make your OWN.
You can find then at a fence supply store in various legnths. I got a 14 foot for around $30.
Make sure you buy Sch40 galvanized 2"OD pipe; check at any building or plumbing supply company. Do not buy any non-sch40 thin-wall post.
That was what was recommended to me because I had a pole with an of of around 1.8".
I opted for the 2" exhaust pipe as I stated above so I did not have to wait on the shipment and could keep my pole that was already cemented.
I used a hammer and slightly dented the top and bottom edges of the pipe so it would slide over the pole and stay in place by making a semi tight fit. I then drilled two holes and ran hardware thru it. Its sturdy as hell.
Ill see if I can find the pictures on here.
The best solution is to use a 1-5/8 inch diameter outer pole and an adapter like this one sold on eBay;
DirecTV AT9/AU9 KA/KU Adapter for old 1-5/8" pole - (eBay item 150165981667 end time Oct-04-07 17:08:42 PDT)
There are basically two methods that can be used to get a strong enough pipe. Use either heavy wall 1-1/4 inch nominal pipe or rigid conduit. Both are 1-5/8 outer diameter actual.
You can also use a galvanized 1-5/8 inch diameter chain link line post and reinforce it by placing a farmer's green "T' post inside, drill a1/4 inch hole through the entire assembly to keep it from turning. The built in green steel ground vane is ideal for this purpose. The assembly is probably stronger than the two inch actual post that DirecTV uses.
Also, if you ever want to switch ot Dish, NO adapter is needed. Both Home Depot and Lowes carries these posts.
I would NEVER reccomend someone to use a 1 5/8ths pipe.
