I'm waiting for the transcript.IF people would listen to the podcast they would know that the answer to that question is D* should be adding HD on the 31st, or around that time frame

How soon they forget. DIRECTV went for three years and added two HD channels; all the while promising ("up to") 100 channels by some time in 2007.
SO E* in addition to COX and Verizon FIOS has struck a deal with LIN broadcasting.. Yet D* cant?
Because LIN is a bunch of money-hungry a**holes. LIN stands for, "Lousy In Negotiations"
Most of us were not HD viewers during that entire time frame, so we have no complaints.
The HD came along as the channels did, and the subscribers.
They added two channels in two years because that's all they could, then they added nearly 100 in 2007. It sounds like "up to" 100 in 2007 to me. Another negative post by Harshness! At least you are consistent.
DirecTV openly admitted in their conference calls that they needed to wait until their new sats went up and that they did not have bandwidth. Not a great situation I guess, but it was what it was - and we knew about when, and why to expect things.
DISH has not been quite as candid in laying out their plans as I see it. In fact, the debate now is really If they have bandwidth (many in fact say they do) and if so, why NO NEW HD for these many months - especially during such a peak period as the 4th quarter (highest TV purchasing time), and when D* was agressively going after it.
And if they don't have the bandwidth to use (my opinion), they have shied away from any statement about it. To me, a major difference for sure in philosophy.
Sorry but that dog dont hunt no more. COX Communications has reached agreements long ago, Verizon FIOS ( a neophyte provider) carries the channels and E* has also reached agreements. D* Excuse time by blaming Lin is over. EVERY TV provider in this DMA has reached agreements EXCEPT DIRECTV.

I don't have any LIN stations in my market so this doesn't affect me, but you're right. If everybody else can come to an agreement with LIN, then D* has no excuse.

I don't understand why we are even asking the question" When will Directv ADD more HD? We have so much now and will get more when the D11 is up and running. All I really want is for them to change MPEG2 channels to MPEG4.
How about ESPNU going HD? There's enough sports news updates now on ESPN & ESPN 2,,,so who needs an ESPN News HD? ESPN should turn their attention to more HD sports coverage and not just in their studio!

I was pointing out that this has often been a game of leap-frog and D* is the one that hopped most recently.
When did 80 something channels of which they proudly list 69 (they still list Golf/Versus twice) become close to 100? Has anyone figured out how they get from 69 named channels to the current count of 92? What packages (outside of a dealer package) would one have to subscribe to to get more than 60 HD "channels"?
I freely admit that everyone exaggerates their HD counts (perhaps none worse than Comcast). At some point, we should be able to figure out how they arrive at their numbers.

The last time I checked E* was still signing up new/returning customers. Why don't you go with them, it won't cost that much to break your contract.

I see similar silence on the D* front with regard to the release of the SWM and AR21 solutions as well as some of the less critical promises. The AR21 situation is perhaps the most problematic (unless you're a hardcore D* apologist).
Differing philosophies are common between businesses. If two companies substantially shared the same ideals, they probably wouldn't be separate businesses.
At the end of the day, they are different companies who serve their customers the best way they can (and hold on tight to their customer's programming commitments).
I just don't think these issues are anywhere near the forefront as HD is right now. But I agree, that as with all large companies, some things go smoother than others, some never come to fruition.
BTW, you mention Comcast as the worst with HD counts, I say its DISH. They say they have 76 national channels, they in fact have only 42 I believe.
