When can we expect Dish to jump on the 3D bandwagon?

I am currently using Blockbuster as well along with the streaming only Netflix plan. I have been with Blockbuster since about 3 months before Dish bought them. I guess I haven't checked recently but when I originally signed up I searched every movie that I knew was in 3D and they didn't have the 3D version of any of them. If they truly are the 3D versions this is new but I would be pleasantly surprised.

The only movie I found back then that claimed to be 3D was coraline but it wasn't actually the Bluray 3D edition. It was an earlier bluray edition that used the red and blue glasses.
This is the boat Dish is missing, Directv has 4 3D channels, 5 if you count the VOD features available... here are examples of available & shown shows, there is a Bullfighters series Bullproof that I enjoy, the PBR Finals was 3D as was the Little League World Series and College Football along with IMAX features etc ...

The main reason I would like Dish to get some 3D channels is so I can demo them in our TV display room. I get tired of showing the same Monsters vs. Aliens 3D movie and I do not want to buy any more movies just for our display.

I would probably even order an occasional 3D ppv but Dish only does 3D on VOD instead of a 3D ppv channel. My 722 is connected to an older set and my 3D TV is connected to a 211k that doesn't get VOD.

In our neighborhood we have solved the " Dish no 3d Channels". We have started an old-fashioned 3D swap. I have bought 12 3d titles. 2 of my neighbors have each bought 12 other 3d titles. We then exchange them. We also plan our next purchases to avoid duplicate buys. We are also looking for new partners. To join the group they will be required to catch up in the purchased 3Ds. We have a neighborhood property owners association. Once the 3D group gets large enough ,we plan to start a 3D library. Of course, if Dish starts offering some 3D channels that shows our 3D offerings we can disolve the group. We thought of going to Direct TV. However, we all have too much invested in Dish based equipment, especially EHDs. Most of us have grandchildren. They love all the 3D animated films. I bet they will want 3d sets in their own houses.

We really need to look at the big picture regarding 3D TV's. In this mornings paper (Phoenix) the headline read "TV's are the number one seller this holiday season". Because the major TV manufactures, along with studios like ABC and Disney and ESPN as well as movie studios like Sony etc are all not only backing 3D, they are invested an assuring it's success. Look at the top of the line models from Panasonic ST, GT and VT series are all 3D. The Sony 929 series is 3D, the Sharp Pro series and 735 series are all 3D. More and more people are buying bigger screens like 60" 65" and 70". Panasonic even has a 42" 3D set. These companies will make sure that 3D sticks around and flourishes. They can't afford to let it fail. One of these days you will be buying a 3D TV because that's all that will be available. If Dish can't see that hand writing on the wall then they will continue to lose subs.

I remember at one Team Summit they said 24/7 RSN's were coming... that about 3 or 4 years ago and still no 24/7 RSN's.

Then they wonder why they keep losing customers. All I'd need E* to do is get 24/7 RSN and Whole home dvr and 2 years to pass and I'd highly consider coming back.

If someone is in "opposition" to 3DTV, then it's not reasonable.

One can reasonably choose not to buy the technology for themselves. But, to oppose the technology as a whole is not only unreasonable, it's a little weird.

You are correct and I agree. My point however is not being against the technology, but not wanting Dish doing it at this time at the cost of first getting all channels in HD that are available in HD, and at the least carry games in HD when they are being shown. There are other things but you get the idea.

I oppose the technology because I think it sucks and wastes resources that could be used to promote technology that doesn't suck.

If Dish adding 3D channels means less bandwidth will be dedicated to adding new HD channels, then I have no interest in 3D channels.

They DO have a FEW that are actually 3D Bluray. I just watched "Cave of Forgotten Dreams". A couple others---"Green Lantern" and the newest Harry Potter movie. When your looking on their site click on "See All Versions". There's a couple of others that I can't recall the names of, a dinosaur move & a surfing one---Imax movies. I'm referring to BB.

BTW, 3D looks amazing on a 120" screen. I just picked up an Epson 3010 projector.:D

One 3D channel ain't gonna kill plans for other HD channels. And, I would be willing to bet that a 3D channel, almost ANY 3D channel, would rank up there with most desired new HD channel, if a poll were taken by customers with HD subscriptions.

Sorry I just want to have to wear the "dumb" glasses.
Then what's the problem?

Lighten up, Francis. It's one channel. It won't kill you.

not enough 3D channels out there to make it worthwhile to offer it yet
All they need is one, for now.

Sorry I just don't want to have to wear the "dumb" glasses. Accidentally left out the main modifier of sentence "don't" . That is the problem. Next year there is supposed to be glasses less 3D. In theaters have never cared for the glasses. Like someone early said given them a headache. Have had that problem too.

My problem is my Samsung DLP--not made any more but like Mitsu--requires checkerboard 3D, not side-by-side or other.
I couldn't join the bandwagon without a converter, I guess.
If available would sure like it except for the cost of glasses and converter. One time cost, I hope.

There is conflicting testimony on this. Originally Mitsubishi blocked Samsung receivers from using their converter. Which ones and if at all it can be done might be an expensive experiment. Don, what was the approx. cost, if you can say.

I like my HL-T5687 because it uses LEDs instead of a bulb and color wheel. Had an HL-S5687 with a noisy wheel from the prior year. After several "replace" failures and for money, Samsung upgraded me. I replaced the red LED a couple of months ago after 4 years, just over $100 with many hours on it, maybe 10000. I would have had several bulb replacements at over $100 each because I leave it on a lot. It has no wheel. The red LED has 24 fins vs green of 14 and blue of 10, as I remember. So it must get hot--the internal chip leads were melted. There is an AVS board on this model > 14000 posts IIRC. The picture is superb in Movie mode, unfortunately the hardest on the red LED. Checking hours of use resets all settings so I'm not checking it.
