Heh. In a sense I guess. Seems to me they are just a step or two ahead of others in the TV space and have been for a while. First Sling TV Live streaming, then AirTV Player which seems very similar to the new AT&T streaming box in functionality, OTA adapters for the Hopper to help customers either drop locals or just get through inevitable retransmission disputes, not to mention AutoHop, 16-tuner DVRs, etc.
Dish isn't perfect -- they have flaws in the implementation of some of their tech (who doesn't?), but they seem to be ahead of the curve in the idea department, or at least a lot of other companies are, er...emulating their ideas anyway. Whether that will be enough to keep them afloat in the long term is hard to know. I can't say I know a lot of happy DirecTV customers outside this forum these days, but I hope they get better. I personally like having choices.
