So as I love to search satellite stuff on ebay. I came up with a mystery. A while back I explained I picked up a VP1000 Plus analog C/Ku band receiver. Very simple critter. Well It came in with a LNB. AKA Ku band but I did not pick that up. Well on ebay. I see the same receiver, manual, type of LNBF, and dish. . With instructions on using it with Galaxy VII or IV. - I tried to look up some info and found both sats died. So any idea of what this system would have been used to pickup? Back in the day?

Thanks,

Currently, there very very few feeds still in analog format. so, the receiver either in good or bad condition means nothing, because its certainly useless.

People selling these old stuffs in ebay is just trying get a few bucks back from their investment.

I do still holding some resistors for 15 years ago I tried to export these to Taiwan but the deal didnot close at last phase because the importer at taiwan lossed the bid and I can not return it to manufactory here because its a special made product. I lossed over $2500 on my own just for this. Now I wonder these resistors still good and can sell this old radar type resistor at ebay.

Josh, try this link, for a short review of the receiver:Smallear.com Satellite - The Low-Cost Leader in Satellite TV
Apparently it was just a simple analog c/ku receiver in its time, I googled for this info but couldnt find any reference to what programming it might have been intended for. Somebody may have just decided to pack it up with a small dish to get rid of it,.
I've had c-band since 1987 and don't remember ever hearing of a pay-tv setup on those satellites you mention, or any co that might have sold an equipment package like that.

Ah yes

Well I doubt it could be much of a pay service. Since the receiver is simple. Unless they rented it out. Yes I do wonder about the dish size. But this look all circa 1990 to me. So I'm going to do some more google search to see what i can find back in that time. I'm thinking maybe music channels or something. Since alot of the cband stuff was going encrypted.

Figured I would try to focus like this.

Analog KU band service on both those satellites around 1990.

Also I would focus any any type of service that might have used the VP1000 reciever from that day too. Maybe I'll get lucky.

If I do find anything. I'll post it. I notice you guys and I like hearing about old sat stories. Even simple ones from back in the day. Almost before my time.

Later,

Josh

I don't recall ever reading about it. Apparently, it wasn't used for C band much if it came with a small Ku dish. I wonder if it contains a positioner? In that case it could be useful for some C band analog feeds or dish moving duties.

There is a 1994/1995 date on the paperwork.
The seller didn't use punctuation, so it's not possible to tell if he's not including a defective LNB, or not including the receiver.

Either way, I'd say it was a waste of $40 (with shipping)

If you have one of these receivers, why would you want another?

no, no silly

I don't want any of it. Just trying to solve a old mystery.

wait until this weekend when college football starts back up and ask me that again :D

Analog is still alive on KU...just mainly for sports feeds :)

Yea that is a idea. LOL

Yes feeds. Um, I need to do that. Since I tested the receiver a while back and did get the echo star test feed. though fuzzy.
