I lied... I ended up with a Sony BDP 350... moved the Mag to the Bedroom... nice player and it plays AVC HD's created by Nero from my Camcorder which the Magnavox wouldn't...
Couldn't pass up the $100 worth of free rentals (adds up to 20 + 2 - 32 oz. drinks per...) and $10 off any BD in stock, I picked Final Countdown...
We just pulled the trigger (that sounds cooler than "clicking the mouse"?) on a Toshiba 46" LCD, our first HDTV, should arrive within a week or so.
Now we just need to figure out how to keep the utility bills paid so we can watch it.

What cost are you looking at for a middle of the road unit, and what brand would you recommend? I dont know much about them, need to read up I guess.
Well you can go from about 700 for an Emotiva or beyond 30K for a Krell. At an entry level, the Integra 9.9 for 2K is a decent pre/pro. It does well with digital, but analog sources leave quite a bit to be desired. For an all digital setup, no analog devices, the Parasound HDP70 will be about 2500. The parasound Halo3 will go for 3500 and the B&K Reference70 (HBR Version) will be 3799. Then you need a good amp. I use a Rotel RMB 1095 (5 channel) and RB1080 (stereo) each @200 watts/channel for one setup and a Lexicon RX7 for the other. Of course you need good speakers to round it out.

Just did some reading, it seems a 5.9 at $700 might be a good consideration if I decide on a rcvr first. The Denon and Pio in that range dont appear to be as good a unit, and for $700, it appears you get a lot. Only trouble is finding someone that sells Integra.

The wife and I are looking in to getting a new LCD. Thinking around a 46-52" range. She is partial to Toshiba tv's ( that is what we have now 32"). I like it but am open to other suggestions. The interent is just filled with soooo many options. Maybe somebody can point me in the right direction. Thanks. And we LOVE to watch TV and movies, we have dishnetwork with the gold pkg and might consider getting a Blue-ray player at the same time.

People are in the mood for saving and being frugal. You should add a Free To Air satellite TV systems on your list. For the average cost of 3 months cable TV subscription, you can buy an FTA system and watch a few satellite TV channels Free. No monthly fee and no commitment.

Though I just bought a Panisonic plasma, I took a long hard look at LCDs as well, focusing mainly on Samsung's 6 series (650 has a glossy screen and better black levels, 630 has a matte and less reflective screen better suited for well-lit environments). If you are on a budget, the Samsung 5 series TVs offer a great bang for the buck, and are really coming down in price. On the Sony side, consider the W4100-Z4100 to get 120hz processing. I didn't really consider Toshibas much as my final decision came down to the Samsung 46" 630 and the Panny plasma. Good luck!

Just curious: what Audio/Video toys are you guys buying this holiday season for yourself and your family?
I am getting a Samsung LN52A650 LCD, a Harmon Kardon AVR254 Receiver, a PS3, and a 612 HD DVR. I have the PS3 already, the receiver is being delivered by UPS today, and the TV and DVR are being delivered Saturday. Saturday is the first day of my two week vacation, I wonder what I'll be doing.
